City Energy Unveils Singapore’s First App-Free EV Charging Experience

City Energy

You roll into a carpark, plug your EV in, and walk away. No app juggling, no QR code scanning, no frantic “why-is-there-no-signal” tapping under layers of concrete. That’s what City Energy is trying to achieve.

City Energy, through its EV charging arm Go by City Energy, has launched Singapore’s first-ever app-free EV charging system. It’s called AutoCharge, and it’s set to redefine how we juice up our EVs across Singapore and Malaysia.

Set Once, Forget Forever

Before you rush off to plug in your BYD or Tesla, you only need to register your car once on the Go by City Energy app (called “City Energy Go” on iOS and Google Play). Once that’s done, it’s as simple as plug-and-play.

The magic lies in AutoCharge, a system that identifies your car via its unique EV Charge Controller ID (EVCC ID). Paired with an issued VIN, this tech lets your EV and charger have a little digital handshake without any help from you.

“It’s about taking the hassle out of the process,” said Mr. Perry Ong, CEO of City Energy. “Drivers shouldn’t have to fiddle with multiple apps or QR codes just to get a charge. With AutoCharge, you plug in, and power flows. That’s it.”

At launch, the system is live at five locations:

  • Pullman Singapore Hill Street
  • Klimt Cairnhill
  • Komo Shoppes
  • North Gaia
  • North Park Residences

A wider rollout is in the works, backed by a commitment to invest over $100 million in EV charging infrastructure by 2030.

Cross-Border Convenience

City Energy proposed network

Teaming up with JomCharge, one of Malaysia’s leading EV charging networks, the company is extending this seamless experience beyond our borders. You will be able to charge across more than 200 AutoCharge-enabled points in Singapore and Malaysia with zero fuss.

How to Get Started

Setting up is straightforward:

  1. Request a VIN from Go by City Energy.
  2. Register your car via the City Energy Go app.
  3. Plug in your EV at a compatible charger.
  4. Unplug and replug once to finalise the pairing.
  5. Done. You’re now part of the AutoCharge future.

From that point on, every visit to an AutoCharge-enabled station becomes a plug-and-go experience.
