Jaecoo 5 and Jaecoo 8 officially launched in Singapore

Jaecoo has launched two new SUVs in Singapore, with the Jaecoo 5 and Jaecoo 8 priced at $169,999 with COE and $234,999 with COE respectively.

Jaecoo has introduced two new SUVs to complement its local lineup in Singapore, with the launch of the Jaecoo 5 and Jaecoo 8 at an event held at Shangri-La Singapore on 5 May.

As its name suggests, the Jaecoo 5 is an electric SUV that slots under the existing Jaecoo 6 and Jaecoo 7 here. Its rounded styling is a reflection of the Jaecoo design language, and it is positioned as an affordable entry-level model to the brand.

Power comes from a single electric motor driving the front wheels, with an output of 155kW/208bhp and 288Nm of torque.

With a 58.9kWh capacity battery, the Jaecoo 5 has a WLTP-rated range of 402km, and can accept a maximum DC charging speed of 130kW.

Inside, the Jaecoo 5 is generously equipped with features, with the vertical-set 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen taking centrestage on the dashboard.

Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay comes as standard, along with ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats.

The car excels in space and practicality too, with the Jaecoo 5 offering a handy 480 litres worth of boot space, expandable to 1,180 litres with the rear seats folded down.

It also comes with functions such as Camping Mode and Karaoke, along with Vehicle-2-Load capability to power external electrical equipment, as demonstrated by Jaecoo during the event.

The Jaecoo 8 meanwhile is a seven-seater SUV that uses the same plug-in hybrid powertrain as the Jaecoo 7. It currently stands as the flagship model of the brand, and appeals to buyers looking for more space and features than Jaecoo’s existing offerings.

The car is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine mated with two electric motors, and they combine for a total output of 422bhp and 580Nm of torque, allowing it to go from 0-100km/h in just 5.8 seconds.

Despite the hefty output and size, Jaecoo claims that the car has an effective range of up to 1,200km on a full tank and battery, almost equal to its smaller Jaecoo 7 sibling.

It also comes with an advanced Continuous Damping Control suspension system that is engineered to deliver a smooth and stable ride.

As a luxury-oriented model, the Jaecoo 8 naturally comes packed with high-end features. Standard equipment includes electrically adjustable front seats with massage and ventilation functions, while the second row seats are ventilated as well.

Both the Jaecoo 5 and Jaecoo 8 also come with the usual suite of driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and traffic jam assist.

Pricing starts at $169,999 with COE for the Jaecoo 5, while the Jaecoo 8 is priced at $234,999 with COE.
