On 11 July 2026, Polestar Singapore embarked on its first official owners’ convoy drive into Malaysia, bringing a group of customers north to Kluang for a morning of driving, food and shared experiences.
For many drivers in Singapore, crossing the Causeway is more than simply travelling from one country to another. It marks the point where dense city streets begin to open up, familiar routines are left behind, and the car finally has room to breathe.
For the groups of owners who accompanied Polestar Singapore on a quiet morning in July, it was a relatively compact journey by road-trip standards, covering approximately 270km from the Polestar showroom and back. Yet its significance extended well beyond the distance travelled.
As Polestar Singapore’s inaugural Malaysia convoy, this was the first step towards building a stronger driving community around the brand and giving owners a new way to experience their cars beyond Singapore’s borders.
An early start for a new beginning
The journey began before sunrise, with owners gathering at the Polestar showroom for registration and a welcome address.
Following a driver’s briefing, the convoy departed Singapore, making its way across the border towards Gelang Patah, before continuing north towards Kluang.
Convoy driving requires a different mindset from the usual solo journey. Maintaining formation, communicating clearly and ensuring that nobody is left behind become part of the experience.
There is also something quietly satisfying about watching a line of Polestar cars move together along an open Malaysian highway.
Individually, their clean Scandinavian forms are understated. Seen travelling as a group, however, they command attention without having to shout for it.
Giving the cars room to stretch
Singapore’s roads are efficient, well surfaced and highly organised. They are also relatively compact.
Brief journeys between traffic lights and expressway exits rarely allow a car to settle into a sustained rhythm. Malaysia’s longer highways, broader stretches of road and changing environments presented owners with a different opportunity. Here, the Polestars could stretch their legs.
The longer drive allowed owners to experience how their cars behaved over sustained distances, from their stability at cruising speeds to the ease with which they delivered power when overtaking. The open road also provided more time to appreciate the quietness and composure that can sometimes be overlooked during shorter urban journeys.
The relationship between a driver and a car often becomes clearer once the urban landscape begins to fall away, and the pleasure came from allowing the cars to operate in an environment where their performance, comfort and refinement could be enjoyed more naturally.
Breakfast, baked goods and Kluang coffee
After departing Gelang Patah, the convoy arrived at Flock Café in Kluang. Breakfast offered owners a chance to step out of their cars and get to know the people travelling alongside them.
Discussions naturally moved from driving impressions and energy consumption to ownership experiences and the small discoveries that come with living with an electric vehicle.
The convoy subsequently headed to Tong Huat Traditional Confectionery, one of Kluang’s familiar food destinations. It was a fitting addition to the journey, bringing the group closer to the town’s traditional character before the final stop at the Kluang Coffee Powder Factory.
At the factory, participants were able to experience another side of Kluang’s heritage before beginning the drive back south.
The stops were straightforward, but that was precisely their appeal. Good roads, good food and good company were enough.
Electric touring without the anxiety
A cross-border journey also presented an opportunity to demonstrate how naturally Polestar’s electric cars could fit into regional travel.
For some EV owners, driving into Malaysia can still raise familiar questions. Will the car have sufficient range? Will navigation remain reliable? Where will the next charger be? What happens when the journey extends beyond the predictable patterns of everyday commuting?
On this drive, those concerns largely faded into the background. The route was well within the capabilities of the participating Polestar cars. This was perhaps one of the trip’s most important demonstrations, where electric mobility did not require the owners to compromise the experience or organise the entire day around the battery. The cars simply got on with the journey.
Their connected infotainment systems also helped make cross-border travel more intuitive. Navigation guidance, route information and other connected functions were readily available even when switching countries, reducing the need to rely on separate devices or switching between applications.
More than the destination
For Polestar Singapore, this inaugural Malaysia convoy was an encouraging first step. It showed that its cars were more than capable of handling a cross-border journey comfortably, confidently and without the need for en-route charging.
More importantly, the satisfaction among the owners suggested that there is genuine appetite for such experiences. The cars may have brought everyone together, but it was the shared journey that made the morning memorable.
As the convoy dispersed and participants returned to their individual routines, there was already a sense that this pioneer trip should not be the last.
Hopefully, it will be the first of many opportunities for Polestar owners to leave the city behind, discover new roads and experience just how far their cars, and the community around them, can go.
