BYD Becomes First Automaker To Offer Full Damage Coverage For Both Intelligent Parking And Urban NOA

Trust has always been one of the biggest hurdles facing advanced driver assistance systems.


Most drivers are happy to let technology assist with parking or lane changes, but handing over more responsibility to a vehicle still requires a leap of faith. BYD believes the best way to earn that trust is by putting its money where its mouth is.

The Chinese automotive giant has announced that it will provide Full Damage Coverage for the Urban Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) function within its Tianshen-BYD Driving-assistance System in China.

The move follows BYD’s earlier commitment to provide coverage for its Intelligent Parking function, making it the first automaker in the world to offer damage coverage for both intelligent parking and urban navigation assistance systems.

At the same time, BYD announced that its entire vehicle line-up can now be optionally equipped with the LiDAR-equipped version of the Tianshen-BYD Driving-assistance System. The company says its long-term goals are centred around achieving zero traffic accidents, creating a “super driver” through advanced driver assistance technologies, and eventually transforming artificial intelligence into a “super personal assistant” for vehicle owners.

To support those ambitions, BYD has committed more than RMB100 billion towards intelligent driving research and development.

The one-year Full Damage Coverage programme applies to both new customers and existing owners who upgrade to Tianshen-BYD Driving-assistance System 5.0 in China.

Under the policy, if a legally liable accident occurs while the Urban NOA function is being used in compliance with regulations, BYD will directly cover the resulting economic losses.

More than 3.15 million BYD vehicles equipped with intelligent driving assistance technologies are already on the road, making it the largest such fleet among Chinese automakers. Collectively, these vehicles generate more than 200 million kilometres of driving data every day, providing a substantial foundation for continuous software development and system refinement.

Supporting this effort is a dedicated team of 5,000 engineers focused on intelligent driving technologies.

Alongside the new coverage programme, BYD also introduced several updates to its intelligent driving ecosystem.

The latest Tianshen-BYD Driving-assistance System receives four major upgrades, including the new XUANJI Architecture 2.0, an industry-first satellite sensor architecture, an upgraded physical AI large model, and a self-evolving data flywheel built on real-world driving scenarios.

Inside the vehicle, BYD has also unveiled its new DiLink AI Intelligent Cockpit. At the centre of the system is a digital assistant capable of proactive task execution and advanced reasoning, designed to deliver a more intelligent and personalised in-car experience.

Perhaps the most significant technology announcement of the event was the debut of the XUANJI A3.

Developed in-house by BYD, the new chip is China’s first self-developed 4nm automotive-grade Driving SoC. It supports future Level 3 and Level 4 autonomous driving applications, while a three-chip configuration can deliver more than 2,100 TOPS of computing power per vehicle. BYD says the chip also consumes 20 per cent less power than comparable products and has already entered mass production.

Just as the Blade Battery was introduced to address concerns surrounding EV safety, the company is now applying the same philosophy to intelligent driving. By combining advanced driver assistance technologies with a damage coverage programme and self-developed hardware such as the XUANJI A3, BYD hopes to build greater confidence in the next generation of vehicle technologies.
