Aion – AutoApp Dev https://www.autoapp.sg/dev Tue, 05 Aug 2025 18:40:42 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9 AION Hyptec HT Review https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=283153 Tue, 05 Aug 2025 18:40:42 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=283153 The AION Hyptec HT has arguably the coolest passenger doors on the market today, but you might want to stick to the regular variant instead.

The AION Hyptec HT isn’t a typo, but a deliberate blend of “Hyper” and “Technology”, presumably the result of a long night between GAC’s marketing and engineering departments. Distributed here by VINCAR EV, the HT marks the top end of the AION portfolio.

At first glance, its design is rather restrained. Sure, our test unit’s retina-scorching orange hue might catch your eye, but squint past the techy bits and the silhouette is familiar.

Almost too familiar.

AION Hyptec HT

From the rear, it looks like it borrowed notes from the XPeng G6, though with a longer 2,935mm wheelbase that quietly signals something a little more substantial.

And then, it winks at you and lifts its arms.

AION Hyptec HT rear doors

Yes, the Hyptec HT’s pièce de résistance is a pair of full-sized, motorised gull wing doors at the rear. Watch them unfold like something out of Tony Stark’s garage and try not to be impressed.

They shoot up over 2.3 metres high, require just 34 centimetres of lateral clearance, and use no fewer than 12 sensors to make sure you don’t kamikaze into the car beside you. If drama had a daily driver, this would be it.

However, they are agonisingly slow to open, all the while attracting bewildered stares from passersby. If you prioritise rear passenger efficiency, stick to the regular doors instead.

AION Hyptec HT boot

Boot space is a cavernous 672 litres with all seats up, easily swallowing a couple of big suitcases and a few shopping bags. Fold the seats flat, and you get over 1,800 litres of flat-floor cargo capacity.

There’s even an underfloor storage area for odds and ends, because even the flashy know the value of being practical.

AION Hyptec HT cabin

Inside, the Hyptec HT does its best impression of a boutique hotel lobby. It’s all Nappa leather, tasteful wood trim, and hush-quiet panels.

The centre stack is anchored by a 14.6-inch touchscreen that controls nearly every function you can think of, from climate control to massage settings, driving modes to door operations. There’s even a built-in app to help you hunt down charging stations when your range anxiety creeps in.

The rest of the layout is pleasingly minimalist. An 8-inch digital instrument cluster provides just the essentials, while a wireless phone charger and secret cubby holes keep the clutter away. Audiophiles will appreciate the 22-speaker Dolby Atmos setup.

Apple users get wireless CarPlay support, but Android folks might be left feeling a bit snubbed without native Android Auto support.

AION Hyptec HT rear seats

Rear-seat passengers get the best deal in the house. The seats recline up to 143 degrees, come with extendable footrests and trays, and offer limo-like legroom.

It’s the kind of comfort that makes you wonder if the front seats are just for show.

AION Hyptec HT front seats

Underneath, the Hyptec HT rides on GAC’s latest AEP 3.0 platform, which supports 800V charging architecture.

The 83.3kWh battery supports up to 280kW of DC fast charging, which will juice you from 10 to 70% in just 15 minutes. Max range is just over 500km on a full charge.

AION Hyptec HT

Performance is brisk, not ballistic. With 250kW (about 335bhp) and 430Nm sent to the rear wheels, the HT does 0 to 100km/h in just under six seconds.

It’s more than enough shove for daily traffic and highway merges, and with its elliptically contoured steering wheel and seamless one-pedal driving, the transition from petrol to electric is as smooth as its ride.

On the software front, the latest ADiGo OS handles driver assistance duties with a tech-savvy confidence.

Pop-up alerts, directional graphics and all the usual safety goodies are here and work as intended. It feels well-integrated rather than bolted-on, which is high praise.

So, who is the Hyptec HT for?

AION Hyptec HT

Well, if you’re the type who likes to make an entrance or wants your car to do it for you, this one’s hard to ignore. The sheer theatre of those doors, the plush cabin, the tech overload. It all adds up to an experience few in this segment can match.

But for those who’d prefer to go easy on the theatrics, the HT Premium trim offers most of the same goodness sans gull wings. A sensible pick, if you don’t need to feel like Bruce Wayne every time you pick up your kids from tuition.

AION Hyptec HT

Either way, the Hyptec HT is proof that Chinese electric cars are no longer just about value. They’re about ambition, luxury, and yes, a bit of flair.

And with the Hyptec HT, AION has landed a strong punch in a segment that’s getting more crowded by the month.

AION Launches New V Premium Model https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=282996 Tue, 22 Jul 2025 17:38:36 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=282996 Aion Singapore has updated the V lineup with a new Premium model.

At $166,988 with COE, the AION V Premium offers a carefully balanced alternative for those who want substance without splurging.

As Ernest Tan, Deputy CEO of VINCAR Group, puts it, “This new variant remains true to the core principles of the AION V platform while offering a more attainable entry point into next-generation electric mobility.

On paper, the AION V Premium’s numbers might not scream ‘headline grabber’, but they certainly whisper ‘well thought-out’. A WLTP-rated range of 435km and fast charging from 30% to 80% in just 16 minutes?

That’s more than enough to quell your range anxiety, especially in Singapore where you’d run out of island before you run out of juice.

Built atop the AEP 3.0 EV platform and armed with GAC’s Magazine 2.0 Battery Technology, the AION V Premium also includes L2 autonomous driving capabilities, AI-powered voice control, and a panoramic glass roof that lets in just the right amount of sky.

Add double-glazed windows, illuminated vanity mirrors, and that signature floating dual-screen cockpit, and you’re suddenly sitting in a vehicle that feels far more premium than the badge lets on.

Design-wise, it wears GAC’s Cyber T-Rex aesthetic proudly. The 19-inch alloys seal the look, while practical touches like Convertible Front Seats and a 427-litre boot mean it’s not just for show.

There’s a robust 8-year warranty covering the whole vehicle, battery, and electric drive unit — plus a 10-year high-voltage battery coverage. You also get free servicing for 10 years, complimentary in-car internet for two years, lifetime firmware updates, and 24/7 roadside assistance for five years.

If you’re curious to see what electric mobility can look like without compromise, head down to the GAC AION showroom at 24 Leng Kee Road.

Aion V Review https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=282469 Sun, 01 Jun 2025 06:52:00 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=282469 If first impressions were everything, the Aion V would be the charming new neighbour who’s just moved in.

You might not know their backstory, but something about them tells you they’ve got a good head on their shoulders. That, in a nutshell, is Aion’s new all-electric SUV.

First Impressions Count

From the get-go, the Aion V makes its presence known. Unlike earlier models that wore the rather cryptic “G” emblem of parent company GAC, this one wears its name proudly.

Size-wise, the V sits comfortably in the mid-size SUV camp. At 4.6 metres long, it outstretches the BYD Atto 3, its direct rival. The design leans into that familiar Chinese EV playbook: squared-off wheel arches, a grille-less nose, and flush door handles that rise when beckoned.

Aion V

Chunky fenders, roof rails, and squinty LED DRLs give it just the right amount of rugged chic, giving the impression you could park it on the grass and it won’t look out of place.

Plush, Practical, and Then Some

Aion V cabin

Step inside, and the V quietly pulls the rug out from under its better-known rivals. There’s an unexpected richness to the cabin thanks to soft-touch materials from the dashboard to the doors, a hefty, leather-trimmed steering wheel, and seats that come with power adjustment, memory settings, ventilation, and massage.

Aion V front seats
Aion V rear seats

Rear passengers aren’t forgotten either. The wheelbase measures a generous 2.75 metres, giving enough legroom for the lankiest among us. There’s even a sturdy fold-out table that’ll happily support a laptop or your late-night prata order.

There’s also a ‘snooze mode’, which is equal parts charming and clever. Activate it from the infotainment screen, and the front seats recline fully, the volume dips to a soft lull, and a chime wakes you gently when your kids’ tuition class ends.

Aion V fridge

Then there’s the quirkiness. Forget a glovebox, for that’s been swapped for a mini-fridge under the centre armrest, capable of both chilling to -15°C or warming to 50°C. Parents of young children will find it especially useful to keep a spare ration of warm milk.

The infotainment system is functional and intuitive, with key features pinned to the bottom of the touchscreen. Apple CarPlay requires a cable for now, but a wireless update is supposedly on the way.

Aion V boot

Storage-wise, the boot is sensibly square and can be expanded further by lowering the floor. Overall, practicality shines through in areas that matter.

Easygoing and Efficient

Aion V

The Singapore-spec delivers a modest 100kW (134bhp), in order to keep it safely tucked into Category A COE. It feels adequately sprightly for our roads, but does puff out slightly once you start to approach triple digits.

The suspension is tuned well for adverse road conditions, and the car’s insulation prevents the majority of external noise and vibrations from inhibiting your passengers.

Regenerative braking is adjustable, though it stops short of full one-pedal driving. The suite of safety systems is comprehensive: lane keep assist, driver monitoring, and adaptive cruise control that handles stop-and-go traffic gracefully. That said, some of the alerts veer into the overprotective nanny category. Thankfully, a few quick taps on the touchscreen tame the most intrusive ones.

Aion V rear lights

And while DC charging at up to 180kW is a huge plus, adding up to 300km in just 15 minutes if you find the right charger, AC charging tops out at a standard 6.6kW.

One gripe we had with the car was the inability to maintain a trip reading for the entire test drive; the trip computer resets every time you start the car.

However, with plenty of battery life left after an extensive test drive, we’d wager that the claimed 485km range isn’t too far-fetched.

Premium Feel, Mass Appeal

Aion V

The Aion V comes across as a thoughtfully engineered, almost premium-feeling SUV. It simply shows up with polish, purpose, and just enough personality to keep things interesting.

While some of its features feel whimsical and others overly ambitious, the whole package gels together surprisingly well.

For buyers looking for an EV that balances comfort, value, and quiet confidence (and who aren’t fussed about badges or badge snobbery), the Aion V is worth a long, thoughtful look.

GAC AION Extends Local Battery Warranty To 10 Years https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=282032 Mon, 05 May 2025 18:30:01 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=282032 In a world where EV technology is evolving at lightning speed, it’s all about trust. And GAC AION is more than ready to put its money where its motor is.

On 28 April 2025, GAC AION quietly made what could be one of the boldest moves in the local electric vehicle scene, announcing a free extension of its battery warranty from 8 to 10 years (or up to 200,000km) for all existing customers in Singapore.

No fine print. No registration forms.

“At GAC AION, customer trust is the foundation of our success,” said Ernest Tan, Deputy CEO of VINCAR Group. “This 10-year warranty upgrade reaffirms our belief in the exceptional quality, durability, and performance of our advanced EV battery technology.”

Let’s be honest. Warranty extensions usually come with caveats longer than your last WhatsApp chat. But not here.

If you bought a GAC AION vehicle in Singapore before 28 April 2025, you’re covered. That’s it. No calls to customer service, no hidden “activation” steps, just an automatic upgrade and peace of mind.

In an era when consumer loyalty is harder to earn than ever, this kind of gesture goes a long way.

For those not yet familiar, GAC AION is the electric arm of Guangzhou Automobile Group, a name long associated with giants like Honda and Toyota in China. In 2023 alone, it delivered over 480,000 EVs globally, making it the third-largest producer of battery electric vehicles in the world.

Closer to home, AION’s Singapore presence is handled by EV Hub, a member of VINCAR EV, the same group that brought in everything from Tesla Model Xs to Porsche Taycans in years past.

Why This Move Matters

A battery is the single most expensive component in an electric vehicle. It’s also the part most buyers quietly worry about, long after the showroom high has faded. Extending the warranty from 8 to 10 years allows them to stop worrying.

It also signals a shift in how brands like GAC AION are positioning themselves: not just as EV manufacturers, but as long-term partners in your electrified journey.

For those still sitting on the EV fence, this might just be the push they need.

Aion Y Plus Review https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=281835 Sun, 20 Apr 2025 17:29:16 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=281835 Practical family movers often lean towards being desperately unexciting, but the Aion Y Plus is charming in its own unique way.

Yes, it’s square, and it’s not the most striking thing to look at. But, spend some time with the Aion Y Plus, and I’m conrfident your opinion of it will change, because it delivers a lot for your dime.

It’s built with a purpose, and it’s brilliant at it

Aion Y Plus

With design cues inspired by everything from high-end audio speakers to trendy home appliances, it’s clear the designers at GAC designed the Y Plus to be functional-first.

Its boxy silhouette might not turn heads, but those clean lines and bold colour choices lend it an aesthetic appeal. Simple, practical, and chic.

Aion Y Plus cabin

Slip inside, and the sense of playful practicality continues. The interior is refreshingly minimalist, but not so sparse that you feel you’ve wandered into an empty loft.

Dominating the cabin is a crisp 14.6-inch touchscreen, complemented by an intuitive user interface and vivid graphics that would feel right at home in a flagship smartphone.

While the digital interfaces are polished, some may find the abundance of soft-touch haptic buttons and menus mildly irritating.

Practicality is the name of the game here; this is a car clearly designed by people who appreciate life’s little conveniences. The flat floor and clever use of space mean your family (or your friends, pets, and their assorted gear) will travel in comfort.

Even the tallest of your passengers will appreciate the generous headroom, thanks to the boxy design and clever packaging.

Aion Y Plus boot

Boot space stands at an impressive 453 litres, expandable up to 1,563 litres with the rear seats folded flat. I challenge you to find another car with the same amount of space on the market today.

Gentle on the roads

Aion Y Plus

With a single electric motor powering the front wheels, it produces a modest but sufficient 134bhp and 225Nm of torque. It’s certainly not going to challenge other EVs in terms of neck-snapping acceleration, but neither will it leave you feeling short-changed when overtaking slower traffic.

The century sprint is dispatched in a leisurely but entirely respectable 7.9 seconds. Quick enough to keep most drivers smiling, but restrained enough to avoid unsettling grandma in the back.

Aion Y Plus

However, what’s more impressive is how the Y Plus handles itself around corners and uneven surfaces. Unlike some electric cars that feel lumbering and unwieldy, the Y Plus is refreshingly light-footed.

There’s minimal body roll, and the steering, though lacking in feedback, is well-weighted. I found myself genuinely enjoying the drive through a series of twisty backroads, a feat I seldom experience in practical EVs built primarily to ferry children, groceries, and occasionally disgruntled in-laws.

Perhaps the Y Plus’s strongest suit is its practicality in everyday Singaporean driving conditions. Its claimed range of around 430km translates realistically to about 390km in the real world, more than sufficient for multiple days of urban commuting between charges.

Aion Y Plus charging port

And when you do finally plug it in, its DC fast-charging capability ensures you won’t be spending your evenings lingering around charging stations, checking your watch impatiently.

Earnestly impressive

Aion Y Plus

The Aion Y Plus is genuinely engaging. It’s as though GAC engineers understood that families don’t just want another soulless appliance, but rather a car they can connect with emotionally.

Then there’s the matter of price. With the Premium variant priced competitively at S$159,988 (including COE), the Aion Y Plus delivers tremendous value. It’s a solid alternative to competing electric SUVs like the Hyundai Kona Electric or BYD Atto 3.

As the automotive world continues its steady march into electrification, the Y Plus reminds us that EV ownership can still be characterful, practical, and fun.

Aion V rear seats

Rear passengers aren’t forgotten either, with a B-pillar air inlet for enhanced cooling, multi-purpose folding tables, and reclining rear seats with up to 137 degrees of adjustability, making long road trips a breeze.

Aion V boot

AION’s latest EV technology ensures the V goes further and charges faster than ever before, with a WLTP range of 485 kilometres.

The Lithium Iron Phosphate battery enables DC fast charging up to 180kW, allowing the vehicle to regain 300 kilometres of range in just 15 minutes.

The lightweight battery and powertrain system reduce energy consumption to just 14.1kWh/100km. Meanwhile, the V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) function offers up to 3.3kW of power, allowing users to charge devices or even run appliances during outdoor activities.

GAC AION takes safety seriously, equipping the AION V with a high-strength body structure, constructed with 72% ultra-high strength steel, heat-formed materials, and aluminium alloys to meet EURO NCAP 5-star safety standards. The 2.3-metre-long airbag curtain deploys in just 0.03 seconds, offering extended rollover protection.

For added peace of mind, intelligent driver assistance features include L2 autonomous driving technology, intelligent voice control, and real-time security monitoring.

To mark its arrival in Singapore, GAC AION is offering a special promotion from 25 February to 5 March 2025.

VINCAR EV Debuts New Aion Y Plus in Singapore https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=273341 Sun, 07 Apr 2024 05:57:43 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=273341 The long-awaited Aion Y Plus is the first of many future models from GAC Aion, and it boasts a Cat A-friendly powertrain and tons of practicality.

On April 5 2024, the Aion Y Plus made its debut at VINCAR EV’s new Aion showroom on Leng Kee Road.

This electric crossover not only marked the first glimpse of the Aion showroom but also VINCAR’s inaugural venture as an authorised distributor, bringing GAC Aion into the Singapore market.

GAC Group, or Guangzhou Automotive Group, is a heavyweight in China’s automotive industry. Established in 1997, this state-owned enterprise has teamed up with automotive giants like Toyota and Honda.

Launched in 2017, GAC Aion is dedicated to electrifying the roads with its EVs. Last year alone, the company delivered over 483,000 electric vehicles to customers. These EVs are built on the bespoke Aion Electric Platform (AEP).

Perched on the AEP 2.0, the Aion Y Plus brings some impressive credentials to the table, offering a budget-friendly electric option without skimping on style or substance.

Its exterior is flanked by ‘Angel Wing’ LED signatures and a grille-less front end. Although labelled an SUV, the Y Plus has a unique silhouette that leans more towards an MPV, complete with flushed door handles.

The interior is the Y Plus’ biggest selling point. GAC Aion has created a space that’s roomy, adaptable, and lively, with five interior colour schemes to complement the exterior paint.

Thanks to its boxy design, headroom is generous throughout, and the 2,750mm wheelbase ensures ample legroom despite the car’s modest length of 4,535mm.

The flat floor makes moving around a breeze, and with the front seats reclined, the cabin transforms into a ‘flat-bed’ area, perfect for lounging. There’s even talk of a karaoke app for the infotainment system, for those who love a good sing-along.

Digitalisation is front and centre in the Y Plus, with a 14.6-inch touchscreen commanding the dashboard and a 10.25-inch instrument cluster for the driver.

Under the hood, the Y Plus boasts a powertrain that qualifies it for a Category A COE. A single motor mounted on the front axle churns out 100kW (134bhp) and 220Nm of torque, propelling the car from 0 to 100km/h in 9.8 seconds. The driving experience is designed to be smooth and linear, making for a comfortable ride.

The 63.2kWh battery provides a WLTP-rated range of up to 430km, extending to 563km in city conditions. Fast charging from 10 to 80% takes just 40 minutes with a 100kW DC charger, while a full charge on a 6.6kW AC charger takes 9.5 hours.

Safety is paramount in the Y Plus, with features like a ‘Magazine Battery’ technology that surpasses industry standards for battery safety.

The car also comes well-equipped with amenities such as a six-way powered driver’s seat, a panoramic sunroof, a premium sound system, and essential safety aids like airbags and driving assists.

A more luxurious Aion Y Plus Premium trim is set to arrive later in 2024, adding even more features like powered seats for the front passenger and a full suite of driver assistance systems.

The Aion Y Plus will officially go on sale starting at $145,988 with COE. The brand will also be showcased at The Car Expo later in April. Looking ahead, plans are in motion to introduce two more Aion models to Singapore, including an electric sedan.

Vincent Tan, Managing Director for VINCAR EV, is optimistic about Aion’s future in Singapore, promising an unparalleled customer experience and aftersales care for Aion owners.
