challenge one another – AutoApp Dev https://www.autoapp.sg/dev Tue, 31 Oct 2023 09:47:06 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9 ACOTY 2024 – Best Cat B SUV https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=269264 Tue, 31 Oct 2023 09:47:06 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=269264 Three Cat B SUVs challenge one another for this category’s crown.

How Does ACOTY Define This Class?

Each contender must be a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and sold with a Category B Certificate of Entitlement (Cat B COE). At the same time, they should remain relatively affordable Cat B models and not creep into the “premium” territory of pricing. Those cars are saved for another category.

Let’s have a look.

Meet The Contenders

Clockwise from top left are the Mazda CX-60, Audi Q3 and Subaru Forester e-Boxer. Two Japanese and a German going toe-to-toe in this competition.

The Mazda CX-60 comes into this competition with a clean, premium-looking Jinba-Ittai-inspired design language. The inside is trimmed with premium-feeling materials and offers ample space for five along with their carry-ons. Coupled with useful driver aids and a suspension setup keen to take corners enthusiastically, the CX-60 is pretty likeable.

The Audi Q3 brings with it Audi’s renowned build quality and solidity, along with a clean and premium design aesthetic. It’s got ample easy-to-use technology, and the interior will take five occupants without too much bother. Frugal in fuel consumption and easy and comfortable to drive, the Q3 is a compelling package from a premium manufacturer.

The Subaru Forester e-Boxer is arguably the most SUV-like SUV of the trio, if you know what I mean. Subarus are utilitarian vehicles, and this theme continues with the Forester. Everything is simple and straightforward, and visibility from inside the cabin is excellent.

Add to that a comfortable ride aided by adaptive cruise control and Subaru’s legendary safety record, and you have an SUV here that can keep your family safe during all journeys.

Three great choices here. Which to choose? Decisions, decisions…

ACOTY 2024 – Best Cat A Hybrid / Plug-In Hybrid https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=269187 Tue, 31 Oct 2023 02:52:35 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=269187 Three frugal Cat A Hybrid/Plug-In Hybrid challenge one another for the championship.

How Does ACOTY Define This Class?

Every Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) that qualifies for this category needs to be sold with a Category A Certificate of Entitlement (Cat A COE). It also needs to have a full-hybrid or plug-in hybrid drivetrain that allows it to be driven for some distance purely on electric power alone.

Although no plug-in hybrids were launched this year under Certificate of Entitlement Category A (COE Cat A), there were three full-hybrid SUVs reviewed.

Meet The Contenders

Two come from South Korea while one is Japanese. They are, clockwise from top left, the Kia Niro Hybrid, Hyundai Kona Hybrid and Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid respectively.

The Kia Niro Hybrid has a lot going for it. Sharp, unique looks, an angular, tech-infused cabin and spacious practicality work in favour of the Niro Hybrid. Its frugality coupled with ride comfort means you’ll be wafting around while keeping your wallet firmly in your pocket for longer.

The Hyundai Kona Hybrid has a distinct futuristic angular styling going for it that sets it apart from other vehicles on the road. Being longer, taller and wider than its predecessor means it’s more spacious and practical than ever before. Coupled with a classic modern interior, creature comforts that aid daily driving and fuel-frugality, you’ve got a really attractive package here.

The Toyota Yaris Cross takes a tried and tested Yaris package, pumps up the suspension and roofline and endows it with a hybrid drivetrain. It’s the most compact of the trio here and is designed primarily as a town runabout, which it does very well. The interior is functional and adaptive cruise control means highway jaunts are that much easier. Plus it’s still sitting atop our chart for fuel economy where petrol-powered cars are concerned.

Although three came to the fore, there could only be one.
