Skoda Enyaq Coupe vRS Review https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=277713 Sat, 28 Sep 2024 15:33:54 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=277713 The Skoda Enyaq Coupe vRS marries sensible practicality with enough speed to frighten your family.

This is Skoda’s first foray into the EV market in Singapore. Built on the Volkswagen Group MEB platform, this Czech shares the same underpinnings as the Volkswagen ID.4/ID.5 and the Audi Q4 e-tron.

It’s a packed family, but the Enyaq still manages to charm with a lil’ bit of Skoda’s practical magic.

Simply clever

While its siblings actively do away with ‘old school’ buttons and switches, the Skoda Enyaq shines with enough dedicated controls to prevent you from going insane.

Yes, some controls still need to be accessed from the 13-inch infotainment screen, which can be annoying on the move. But, at least you get a row of quick-setting buttons underneath it, and a set of physical controls on the steering wheel.

This is miles better than the haptic buttons found on the Volkswagen ID.4, and it amplifies the Enyaq’s user-friendiness.

There’s plenty of room for both front and rear passengers, and the boot is large at 570 litres; the SUV-styled variant bumps that up to 585 litres.

If you need more space, folding down the rear seats gives you a massive 1,610 litres.

The interior design, especially the sports seats, does give you that vRS flair. They’re comfortable, supportive, and electrically adjustable for the driver. There’s also a special vRS steering wheel that feels nice and chunky, just the sort of thing you’d want in a “sporty” car.

Add in the nice sound system and some hidden umbrella pockets in the door cards, and you have a vehicle that can easily take on whatever a family can throw at it.

It looks smart

Skoda has put effort into making the Enyaq fit in with the rest of the Skoda range, and the distinctive design language offers a sense of familiar comfort for fans of the brand.

We do like the front, and it looks great at night with its Crystal Face grille. However, the rear is a little… jellybean-shaped.

Personally, we would opt for the SUV-styled variant, but to each their own. Coupe SUVs are getting more popular in today’s market, so there is clearly a demand for them.

And it is quick

Skoda Enyaq Coupe vRS

Skoda has decided to give its Enyaq a bit of a power boost by slapping on an extra motor and blessing the car with a vRS badge, hoping to turn this big, family-friendly EV into something a little more exhilarating.

Power sits at 389bhp and 545Nm, identical to the ID.4 and ID.5 GTX models from Volkswagen. This pushes the Enyaq to achieve a century sprint time of 5.5 seconds.

But ride quality takes a hit

Sounds impressive, and you can smoke other drivers off the line. But, in doing so, Skoda’s engineers also stiffened the suspension to make the Enyaq handle better around corners, and the result is a ride that’s a little too harsh. Whether you’re on city streets or highways, you’ll feel every undulation.

There’s traction aplenty, thanks to the AWD setup, and the vRS does have some serious acceleration between bends. But it’s not exactly what we’d call “fun to drive.”

You’re more likely to feel like a passenger in your own car as it bounces you around, rather than feeling like you’re fully in control.

There are redeeming factors though

Skoda Enyaq Coupe vRS

On the plus side, visibility is great all round apart from the narrow rear window. Minor inconvenience though, as the car’s camera array removes any hesitation when parking.

And while the Enyaq vRS doesn’t offer one-pedal driving, it does have a ‘B’ mode and shift pedals to adjust regenerative sensitivity, a major plus point over the ID.4.

Chief of which is range

The Skoda Enyaq vRS claims it can achieve up to 547km on a full charge. In real-world driving, it does come close, which is impressive for an EV of this size.

We managed to average 17.7kWh/100km, which easily allows the car to scoot around for a week before needing a juice-up.

Charging times are decent too, as the Enyaq can take up to 175kW. With a fast public charger, you can go from 10% to 80% in about 28 minutes.

Is the vRS worth it?

Skoda Enyaq Coupe vRS

The standard Enyaq is an excellent car; spacious, practical, and well-priced. But this vRS version? The decision mainly comes down to you.

You still get all of the practical features, but performance-wise, despite being fast, the Skoda Enyaq vRS just doesn’t deliver enough enjoyment to justify its sportier stance. And we can confidently say most folks do not need the power bump over the regular model.

Our money’s on the regular Enyaq, and you’ll probably be a lot happier in it too.

First Drive – Škoda Enyaq https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=265261 Tue, 04 Jul 2023 17:24:22 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=265261 The Škoda Enyaq isn’t just a re-skinned Volkswagen ID.4; it’s much more than that.

If you’ve read our Volkswagen ID.4 first drive article, I won’t blame you for thinking that Škoda’s first dedicated EV, the Enyaq, is nothing more than a Volkswagen ID.4 in a different suit.

And you’re not wrong either. Both are built on Volkswagen’s MEB (Modular Electric Drive Matrix) platform and use the exact same electric powertrain. Think of it as more of non-identical twins kinda deal.

But, that’s where the similarity ends. Despite being identical underneath, Škoda has taken liberty and done its own unique spin on the model. In some areas, I dare say it even trumps its German sibling.

At first glance, you might mistake the Enyaq for another Škoda model, with its unmistakable Škoda resemblance peeking through the “camouflage” wrap. The familiar headlights, grille, and taillights are all traits that keep it quintessentially Czech.

Where it differs is the inside, where the Enyaq’s cabin is radically different from Škoda’s current range.

Personally, I would have liked a slightly larger instrument cluster, but it gives the dashboard a cleaner look overall. A significantly larger 13-inch touchscreen infotainment screen now dominates the middle, and many of the buttons and switches you’ve come to know and love from the latest Škoda models also find their home in the Enyaq.

Where the Enyaq shines is its use of soft materials throughout the cabin. The suede/fabric trim adorning the dashboard and door cards elevates the Enyaq’s ambiance to a more luxurious level compared to the predominantly hard plastic interior of the Volkswagen ID.4.

Rear passengers get a flat floor, and with a generous 2,765mm wheelbase, ample legroom is available, ensuring no awkward leg jousting from the middle occupant. If you exclude the middle guy, a handy removable floor tray adds extra cubby slots.

The Enyaq also boasts 585 litres of boot space, expandable to a capacious 1,710 litres with the backrests folded.

Underneath the hood, or rather, beneath the electric vehicle’s sleek exterior, both the Enyaq and ID.4 share the same powertrain. An electric motor mounted on the rear axle generates 201bhp (150kW) and a substantial 310Nm of torque. Fueling this electrifying performance is a 77kWh (nett) lithium-ion battery, providing a commendable 532km of driving range, as Škoda claims.

The Enyaq’s power delivery is smooth and effortless, allowing it to rock the century sprint in a decent 8.7 seconds. While not necessarily breaking records for the speed enthusiasts among us, it’s the ideal runabout for those seeking a spirited yet gentle driving experience.

Although, the Enyaq’s braking system does take some time to get used to, requiring a deeper pedal press before you feel the pads bite. Ride comfort could also be improved in some areas. Whilst not in any dire circumstance, harsh jolts in the road can send feedback into the cabin.

Like what you see? The Škoda Enyaq is set to arrive in Q1 2024, and it’s likely to carry a more affordable price tag than its sister, the ID.4. With both models coexisting, the Enyaq might just prove to be the more compelling choice for customers, barring any notable differences in specifications.

Škoda Launches Exciting New Enyaq iV RS EV https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=261412 Thu, 10 Nov 2022 10:05:52 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=261412 Škoda is expanding its RS family to include another EV model, a dual-motor high-performance version of its electric Enyaq iV SUV.

Škoda is expanding its RS family to include another EV model. It’s (creatively) dubbed the Enyaq iV RS, and just like its coupe sibling, the Czech carmaker has opted for a dual motor all-wheel drive setup with a total power output of 220 kW (299 PS) and 460 Nm of instant torque.

Interestingly enough, this makes both RS versions of the Enyaq iV family the most powerful models currently in Škoda’s lineup.

Sporty Goodness

In true Skoda RS fashion, the Enyaq RS has been bestowed RS-specific design elements, including large 20 or 21-inch alloy rims. Sports suspension drops the overall height by 15mm, giving it a more aggressive stance. Other RS-specific trinkets include gloss black finishes on various parts of the car. Skoda’s ‘Crystal Face’ grille makes yet another appearance, consisting of 131 LEDs embedded into the grille, flanked by Matrix LED headlights.

In case you want everyone to know you’re driving the top rung of the Skoda family, RS badges are generously adorned all over the car. To top it off, an RS-exclusive Mamba Green colour will also be offered.

The RS goodies continue on the inside, with dashboard and door trims covered in a carbon-fibre look, complementing aluminium pedals. Suede microfibre sports seats come as standard and feature an embroidered RS logo. Owners are also given a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an upgrade exclusive to the RS-trim model.

With technology being the main focus of the new model, Škoda assures that the Enyaq’s software will always be up to date thanks to a permanent online connection via an integrated eSIM, allowing drivers to download updates over the air. The Internet connection can support numerous functions too, including remote controls for battery charging, and real-time traffic updates.

Besides its sporty look and dynamic handling, the Enyaq RS offers a generous amount of space for up to five people. 585 litres of boot space are available, which can be expanded up to 1,710 litres by folding down the rear seats.

RS Blood

The Škoda Enyaq iV RS is based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electrification (MEB) platform. Benefitting from a dual motor all-wheel drive system, the car churns out 220 kW and a 460Nm of torque. Boasting a decent top speed of 180 km/h, it is 20 km/h faster than regular ENYAQ iV models and can clock the century sprint in 6.5 seconds.

Its 82 kWh battery, high energy efficiency and drag coefficient of 0.265 give the model a maximum range of over 500 kilometres (WLTP). Thanks to a maximum charging power of 135 kW, the ENYAQ RS’s lithium-ion high-voltage battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 36 minutes at fast-charging stations.

A new function, dubbed ‘Plug & Charge’, makes charging seamless at suitable charging points stored in the Skoda PowerPass app. An owner would just need to connect the charging cable, and the vehicle is automatically identified at the charging point. The subsequent charging session is then billed automatically.

The model has seen major success in Europe since its inception in 2021. Hopefully, we will be able to catch a glimpse of this on our roads very soon.
