Mercedes-Benz Singapore Unveils First-of-Its-Kind ‘Mercedes me Charge’ EV Charging Network https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=280704 Mon, 03 Feb 2025 07:40:09 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=280704 For years, one of the biggest hurdles in electric vehicle (EV) adoption has been the lack of charging convenience, but Mercedes-Benz Singapore is taking a bold step to change that.

Introducing Mercedes me Charge, a first-of-its-kind EV charging solution that grants Mercedes-Benz owners seamless access to over 3,000 charging points islandwide. Developed in partnership with SP Group, Charge+, and Volt, this initiative covers 49% of all public charging points in Singapore, including a dominant 77% of all DC fast chargers.

One of the biggest frustrations for EV owners today is having to juggle multiple charging accounts; different apps, different payment methods, and different charging rates depending on the operator.

Mercedes me Charge solves this problem at the source. With a single, unified account, drivers can tap into an extensive charging network without the hassle of managing multiple subscriptions. Payments are automated, billing is transparent, and real-time navigation guides drivers to the nearest available charging station.

“At Mercedes-Benz, we are constantly looking for ways to improve the ownership experience by addressing gaps in convenience and usability,” said Darren Ng, Head of Customer Excitement at Mercedes-Benz Singapore.

“Mercedes me Charge is a thoughtful solution designed to tackle the challenges of EV charging in Singapore, offering our customers seamless access to a comprehensive network of charging points. This service underscores our commitment to understanding our customers’ needs and delivering innovations that truly enhance their journey with us.”

Mercedes me Charge

Beyond just offering a wider charging network, Mercedes me Charge introduces a suite of innovative features designed to simplify and enhance the EV ownership experience:

  1. Single-App Integration

With the Mercedes-Benz App, users can simply scan a QR code at any partner charging station to start charging. This eliminates the need for multiple operator accounts, streamlining payments and transactions through one platform.

  1. Transparent Pricing & Cashless Billing

Charging costs are calculated dynamically based on the vehicle’s current battery state, providing an accurate estimate before charging begins. Billing is automated, with all transactions accessible via the Mercedes-Benz Customer Portal.

  1. Smart Navigation & Charging Station Locator

Using the MBUX infotainment system or the Mercedes-Benz App, drivers can search for public charging stations nearby, check station availability and pricing in real-time, and plan routes that include charging stops using the “Send to Car” function

  1. Pre-Entry Climate Control

Drivers can pre-set their preferred cabin temperature via the Mercedes-Benz App while the car is charging, ensuring a comfortable ride from the moment they step in.

  1. Multi-Operator Compatibility

Mercedes me Charge seamlessly integrates with SP Group, Charge+, and Volt, covering some of Singapore’s most strategically located charging points—from shopping malls to office buildings and residential areas.

Mercedes me Charge

Globally, Mercedes me Charge connects users to over 2 million charging points across 35 countries, making it one of the largest EV charging networks in the world. Mercedes-Benz is already working with Hubject, a leading e-mobility solutions provider, to expand charging options across the region.

“This initiative will not only benefit Singaporean drivers but also pave the way for seamless cross-border electric travel,” said Ng.

With Singapore acting as a testbed for new EV technologies, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Mercedes me Charge extend beyond city limits in the near future.

Huawei Partners with EV-Electric to Support EV Charging in Singapore https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=272937 Tue, 19 Mar 2024 07:21:02 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=272937 This collaboration between EVe and Huawei Ultra-fast chargers is poised to make the charging time closer to that spent at petrol kiosks.

Huawei International and EV-Electric (EVe) Charging Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Singapore’s Land Transport Authority, have now joined forces to address Singapore’s expanding Electric Vehicle (EV) charging needs.

The two companies have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which outlines collaboration in key areas such as market insights, technological advancements, and proof-of-concept projects for EV chargers.

The partnership aims to enhance accessibility, efficiency, and innovation in Singapore’s EV charging infrastructure.

Liquid-cooled Ultra-fast chargers

An example of an ultra-fast charger found in China

Huawei’s Fully Liquid-cooled Ultra-fast chargers, rated at 480kW, are set to revolutionise the EV charging experience in Singapore, offering speeds almost 10 times faster than conventional 50kW fast chargers.

This development can prove valuable for high mileage fleet vehicles like taxis, private-hire vehicles (PHVs), and light goods vehicles; vehicles that require quick turnaround times, making the process faster and more convenient.

Singapore is making significant strides in advancing its islandwide EV charging network, including expanding EV charging capabilities in HDB and other publicly accessible carparks, and deploying more high-powered fast chargers to meet the needs of high mileage users.

Mr Derek Tan, CEO of EVe, expressed excitement about Huawei’s technology, highlighting its potential to transform the charging experience for high-mileage users.

“We are excited that Huawei will be bringing their latest and fastest EV charging technology to Singapore. At almost 10x the speed of conventional fast chargers, we can help users save even more time and at some point, hopefully bring the charging experience closer to that of petrol kiosks.”

Mr Maxi Wang, CEO of Huawei International, emphasised Huawei’s commitment to sustainable solutions and its eagerness to support Singapore’s EV population growth.

“We are delighted to partner with EVe and proud to introduce our most advanced EV charging solutions to Singapore,” Mr Maxi Wang added. “Huawei is always dedicated to innovating sustainable solutions for our shared green future.”

BYD Signs New Partnership With 5 EV Charging Operators https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=272836 Sat, 16 Mar 2024 15:12:36 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=272836 The new partnership sees CDG Engie, Charge+, Shell, SP Group and Volt granting new BYD buyers discounted charging rates.

New BYD owners will soon be spoilt for choice of charging options.

That’s because BYD has recently formed a partnership with five different EV charging operators, enabling new BYD owners in Singapore to enjoy discounted charging rates as they embark on their electric vehicle (EV) journey.

The announcement came on March 15, 2024, bringing together representatives from Singapore’s five largest CPOs – CDG Engie, Charge+, Shell, SP Group, and Volt. The signing ceremony took place at BYD by 1826 (Boat Quay).

This development builds on BYD’s earlier announcement of discounted charging with Charge+, now expanding the options significantly for customers.

For those still confused, here’s a simple breakdown of the partnership mechanics:

  • Customers can choose one CPO from four options – CDG Engie, Charge+, Shell Recharge, and SP Group – and enjoy a 20% discount on charging rates. This discount is exclusive to new BYD passenger car owners with vehicles registered in 2024.
  • The discount rate for the remaining partner, Volt, is only 5%, but this privilege extends to all existing and new BYD passenger car owners.

While Charge+’s discount program has been in effect since January, the programs for the other CPOs will start in April. BYD is also in talks to partner with a sixth CPO.

This move underscores BYD’s commitment to enhancing its customer ecosystem in Singapore, where it has seen remarkable success. The brand surpassed Tesla in 2023 for the most passenger EVs registered and has maintained its lead in 2024, becoming the top-selling automotive brand in February 2024.

Looking ahead, BYD plans to appoint a new dealer, Harmony Auto, open more showrooms, and introduce new models. Among the teasers is a new electric MPV.

Mr James Ng, Managing Director of BYD Singapore and Philippines, emphasised the brand’s commitment to providing customers with an exceptional ownership experience.

He said, “We aspire for this initiative to enable electric vehicle owners to fully appreciate the advantages of lower running costs while transitioning seamlessly into the ‘EV’ lifestyle.”
