“Isn’t this an existing model?” you might ask. Yes, while the GR Yaris isn’t new, it now comes with an updated 8-speed automatic transmission.

At its heart lies the 1.6-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine, delivering 276hp and 390Nm of torque. This is paired with the new 8-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission, a marvel of engineering that promises lightning-quick gear changes and seamless acceleration.

With a 0-100 km/h sprint clocking in at just 5.2 seconds, seems like the engineers were right.

The drivetrain offers all-wheel drive, ensuring stability and control. Enhanced suspension tuning and reinforced chassis components guarantee agility and precision, making this car as thrilling on the track as it is on your daily commute.

Eric Tong, Sales and Distribution Director of Borneo Motors Singapore, encapsulated the spirit of the launch, saying, “The new GR Yaris brings motorsport excitement to everyone. It’s a perfect fusion of performance and convenience, making every drive a memorable one.”

On the inside, a 15-degree tilted control panel and a lowered driving position enhance ergonomics and visibility, putting the driver firmly in command. The 12.3-inch full-colour TFT gauge cluster, complete with real-time performance data like turbo boost and g-force metrics, ensures you’re always in tune with the car’s capabilities.

Smart connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integrate seamlessly, while an immersive audio system elevates your daily drives. The Drive Mode Select feature lets you tailor the car’s dynamics to your preferences, blending practicality with pulse-racing excitement.

Evolved GR Yaris Makes World Premiere https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=271259 Wed, 24 Jan 2024 10:07:33 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=271259 The rally-bred Toyota GR Yaris hot hatch gets an extra dose of power and more race goodies.

Toyota has taken its already scorching GR Yaris and turned up the heat. This little dynamo, which has already found its way into the hearts of hot hatch aficionados, is back from the workshop with some serious tweaks.

Revealed at Tokyo Auto Salon 2024, the new turbocharged 1.6-litre 3-cylinder engine is back, but it’s not just business as usual.

This powerhouse now churns out 276bhp (up from 257) and boasts a torque of 390Nm. It’s all in the meticulous engineering: sturdier valve material, beefier fuel injection pressure, and featherlight pistons designed to withstand the wear and tear of high-octane driving.

It’s all been put through the wringer in the Japan Rally Championship, so you know it’s tough as nails.

Toyota didn’t just stop under the hood. The GR Yaris’s structure has been reinforced for extra rigidity. The suspension system has been fine-tuned for the rough and tumble of the racetrack, promising a ride that’s both tough and smooth.

An optional eight-speed automatic gearbox straight from Gazoo Racing is also on offer. It’s a race-inspired autobox that even outperformed the six-speed manual in test laps. With a smart torque control system and a wealth of heat-resistant material, it’s designed to read the driver’s style and adapt accordingly.

Inside the GR Yaris, everything is where you need it, especially when you’re mid-rally. The cockpit’s been reimagined for the driver, with a lower seat and a dropped instrument panel for an unobstructed view of what lies ahead.

The redesigned interior ensures everything from the intercooler spray to the traction control is within easy reach.

The GR Yaris comes with three driving modes: Normal, Eco (who needs this?), and Sport. In the auto, these modes even adjust the shift behaviour. Plus, the AWD system offers three more settings: Normal, Sport, and Track.

Expect the latest in safety, sat-nav, and a digital key. The auto versions boast a swankier spec, including forged wheels and a banging JBL sound system. Visually, the GR Yaris sports a new grille, revamped rear lights, and aerodynamic tweaks for stability and reduced drag.

Keep your eyes peeled for two special editions, each celebrating one of Toyota’s world rally champions. The Sebastien Ogier Special Edition and Kalle Rovanpera Special Edition will debut at the Monte Carlo Rally.
