Inchcape+ Unveils BYD Commercial Mobility Hub and Launches T9R Electric Heavy-Duty Truck https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=280449 Tue, 21 Jan 2025 15:22:07 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=280449 Inchcape+ has taken a decisive step forward with the grand opening of the BYD Commercial Mobility Hub and the official launch of the BYD T9R electric heavy-duty truck.

The BYD Commercial Mobility Hub is designed to showcase BYD’s latest electric vehicle (EV) technologies, serving as a knowledge and collaboration platform, and empowering businesses to transition seamlessly to electric fleets.

For Inchcape+ and BYD, this hub represents a vision for the future.

James Ng, Managing Director of BYD Singapore and the Philippines, captured this sentiment: “The launch of the BYD Commercial Mobility Hub represents a proud step forward in electrifying Singapore’s commercial vehicle sector. This hub embodies the progress of our partnership with Inchcape+.”

“We’re excited to collaborate further, introduce more advanced EV models, and support businesses in their electrification journeys, paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future,” he added.

A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Inchcape+ and ComfortDelGro Corporation, one of Singapore’s leading transport operators. This partnership aims to accelerate fleet electrification by offering tailored EV solutions, infrastructure support, and financing options for businesses looking to make the switch.

With Inchcape+ providing fit-for-purpose electric trucks and ComfortDelGro spearheading charging infrastructure and leasing options, this collaboration is a major step towards making EV adoption more accessible, practical, and cost-effective for Singapore’s commercial sectors.

Speaking on the significance of this partnership, Chua Hwee Song, Group Chief Special Projects Officer, ComfortDelGro, remarked: “As we work together to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles, we are reinforcing our commitment to sustainable transportation solutions that will benefit businesses and communities alike.”

The truck launched at the event was the T9R, an electric heavy-duty truck equipped with BYD’s Blade Battery technology, boasting a driving range of up to 320km. This makes it a practical solution for industries such as construction, logistics, and waste management.

This launch builds upon the momentum from last year’s Singapore International Transportation and Commercial Expo (SITCE), where Inchcape+ secured its first order of 100 BYD T9R trucks, the largest acquisition of BYD electric heavy-duty trucks in Singapore.

For Jerome Ang, General Manager of Electric Commercial Vehicles at Inchcape Singapore, the T9R is a statement of progress: “Today, we are ushering in a new era of green mobility with the launch of the BYD T9R and the opening of the BYD Commercial Mobility Hub. These milestones reflect our ongoing commitment to empowering businesses with sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective solutions.”

As global regulations tighten and fuel costs fluctuate, EVs provide businesses with a future-proof solution that balances sustainability with operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

With government support, industry partnerships, and technological advancements, the stage is set for commercial EV adoption to accelerate. The BYD Commercial Mobility Hub will serve as a knowledge hub, helping businesses navigate the transition to electric fleets with expert guidance, infrastructure solutions, and financial incentives.

AutoTalk – A Conversation with Ng Khee Siong, Managing Director of Borneo Motors Singapore https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=278982 Sun, 17 Nov 2024 17:31:25 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=278982 If there’s one thing Mr Ng Khee Siong understands better than most, it’s the delicate art of balancing innovation with tradition.

On a brisk morning, we had the pleasure of visiting the newly revamped Lexus boutique at Leng Kee, an establishment that promises to reshape the luxury automotive experience on our shores. We also managed to catch Mr Ng Khee Siong, Managing Director of Borneo Motors Singapore, for a delightful discussion regarding the new space.

Over the course of our chat, Mr Ng revealed not just the transformation of the boutique but the philosophy that keeps Lexus at the forefront of premium automotive excellence.

A Boutique That Breathes Luxury

Walking into the Lexus boutique, you’re greeted by a symphony of understated elegance. Think of it as less of a showroom and more of an art gallery, where each vehicle is a masterpiece carefully curated under warm ambient lighting.

Mr Ng shares, “We wanted to create a space where our customers feel an immediate sense of calm and exclusivity. It’s about inviting our guests into the Lexus lifestyle.” And true to his word, the boutique exudes a Zen-like atmosphere, a sanctuary in the bustling heart of Leng Kee.

The waiting lounge is a testament to this philosophy. Plush seating, curated artwork, and a coffee bar serving premium brews, all designed to make waiting an experience rather than an inconvenience.

Lexus calls it “Omotenashi“, a Japanese hospitality concept that anticipates a guest’s needs before they even realise them.

Keeping Up With The Times

Luxury without innovation is like a shell without substance. Fortunately, the Lexus boutique is no relic of old-world charm; interactive touchscreens dot the space, allowing customers to explore every detail of their dream car, from colour options to bespoke interior finishes.

For those more traditionally inclined, there’s also a dedicated customisation area where swatches of leather and wood trims are laid out like a designer’s atelier. Here, customers can feel the materials that will eventually grace their vehicle, adding a personal touch to their purchase.

Lexus is also actively evolving to meet the needs of a more discerning and environmentally conscious clientele. Mr Ng mentions the brand’s commitment to sustainability, a word that’s become almost as synonymous with Lexus as luxury itself.

“Lexus has long been a pioneer in hybrid technology,” he added. “Our goal is not just to provide cars that are luxurious but also responsible.”

The new boutique features a section dedicated to hybrid and electric models, showcasing Lexus’ push towards a greener future without compromising on performance or opulence.

Maintaining A Legacy Of Excellence

When asked how Lexus continues to maintain its standing as a premium automotive brand in Singapore, Mr Ng’s answer is both humble and insightful. “It’s about staying true to our core values (craftsmanship, reliability, and innovation) while also listening to our customers. They are the ones who drive us to constantly improve and innovate.”

He illustrates this point with a personal anecdote. “Just the other day, a long-time customer came in and mentioned how his first Lexus, bought over a decade ago, is still running smoothly. It’s stories like these that remind us why we do what we do.”

A New Chapter Awaits

Every detail in the new Lexus Boutique, from its curated menus to its concierge services, redefines what it means to be a luxury car brand.

While other manufacturers are shifting towards a more digital and direct-to-customer sales approach, Lexus Singapore has stuck to their brand philosophies and doubled down on the physical showroom experience.

This approach has not only kept an active pool of loyal owners, but it has also allowed the brand to expand and reach out to more key demographics.

By blending tradition with modernity, Lexus Singapore has set a benchmark in redefining luxury, positioning itself as both an automotive brand and a lifestyle choice that resonates with the evolving expectations of its clientele.

Inchcape Publishes New 2023 Sustainability Report https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=275030 Wed, 05 Jun 2024 16:59:15 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=275030 Inchcape has recently published its inaugural sustainability report, as it makes progress towards upcoming sustainability targets.

Inchcape has recently rolled out its inaugural sustainability report. This document sketches the strides Inchcape has made towards its ambitious 2023 sustainability goals, while also highlighting its pivotal role in fostering the green mobility transition.

At the heart of its ethos, Inchcape asserts that operating with integrity is fundamental to enhancing the performance of its mobility partners and fortifying ties with essential stakeholders. The report is a deep dive into the fruits of their labour across four critical pillars of their Responsible Business framework.

The past year has been marked by notable achievements: a commendable 6.6% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, the installation of solar power systems at over 40 locations, and the engagement of 800 colleagues in an Early Careers program designed to foster the next generation of leaders.

Additionally, the Women into Leadership program has seen 100 graduates, boosting female leadership from 22% in 2022 to 28% in 2023. Inchcape has also refreshed its Code of Conduct across 35 countries and initiated 21 road safety programs.

On the local front, Inchcape’s collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic birthed the Singapore Future Mobility Academy, aimed at upskilling the workforce to navigate the burgeoning electric vehicle sector.

They’ve also launched Toyota’s first car-sharing program, FlexiGo, in Tengah. A new initiative sees the introduction of water-recycling car wash gantries, set to save a staggering 7.5 million litres of water annually.

These initiatives place Inchcape on a solid path towards its long-term sustainability targets, which include slashing its absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46% by 2030, from a 2019 baseline, and achieving net-zero emissions in these categories by 2040.

Inchcape and Karcher Launch New Water-Saving Car Wash https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=274083 Tue, 23 Apr 2024 16:01:20 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=274083 This is an industry-first carwash gantry made by Karcher which recycles up to 85% of the water used per wash.

In a city where every drop of water counts, Singapore stands at the forefront of tackling environmental challenges, particularly when it comes to conserving our most precious resource.

Recognising the urgency, local distributor Inchcape Singapore has teamed up with Karcher to introduce a groundbreaking solution in sustainable car wash practices that dramatically slashes water usage.

Together, they’ve rolled out an industry-first automated car wash gantry capable of recycling an impressive 85% of the water used per wash.

Traditional car washes are notorious for their water consumption, typically gulping down around 130 litres with every vehicle they clean.

However, this innovative partnership flips the script through advanced technology. It’s projected that up to 7.5 million litres of water will be conserved annually across all Inchcape locations in Singapore. To put that into perspective, that’s equivalent to the volume of three Olympic-sized swimming pools!

The process is fascinating: the wastewater from each wash undergoes a sophisticated filtration system that clears impurities down to 70 microns (about one-third the diameter of a human hair). This reclaimed water is then reused for the initial stages of washing the cars, with only the final rinse requiring fresh water.

But it’s not all about water conservation. The system ensures that each vehicle isn’t just cleaned, but immaculately so. Each gantry is fitted with specially designed polyethene brushes that guarantee a consistent and thorough clean without compromising on quality.

The setup includes a precise mechanism for rear cleaning and rim washing, ensuring every nook and cranny is spotless. For that final touch, a contour-following roof dryer whisks away any remaining droplets, leaving each car sparkling and dry.

Currently, the Inchcape-owned car wash service is available exclusively for Toyota, Lexus, and Suzuki customers at Inchcape’s Leng Kee and Ubi aftersales service centres.

Fully Renovated Toyota Showroom and Service Centre Opens https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=266806 Fri, 25 Aug 2023 07:09:42 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=266806 Omichannel customer platform also launched for Toyota customers.

The opening of Inchcape Singapore’s fully-renovated Toyota showroom and service centre at 33 Leng Kee Road also saw the introduction of Omnichannel, a customer platform that allows Toyota’s potential customers to configure and order their new cars online, or at the showroom, or a combination of both. One can call it a holistic and seamless end-to-end phy-gital customer journey.

“Our Omnichannel platform together with the all-new Toyota Showroom exemplifies our commitment to going the extra mile for our valued customers,” said Ng Khee Siong, Interim Managing Director of Inchcape Singapore.

“Our goal is to make the car purchase experience more convenient and seamless across all touchpoints, such as physical showrooms, websites, mobile apps, social media, and more. We aim to deliver excellent services, comprehensive support and better engagement for our customers throughout the journey from vehicle selection, purchase, personalised onboarding, trade-in and aftersales care.”

In essence, customers can build their dream car using the “Build and Price Configurator”, personalizing such items as body colour, interior and accessories. They can even gain insights into financing and insurance coverage during this process. Having saved their configuration online in their “My Account”, customers can then conclude their purchases together with their Toyota sales consultants either online or in the showroom with seamless viewing of physical colour plates and seat fabrics per customers’ saved choices.

The journey doesn’t end there. Toyota Always app and website would be used to book service appointments, purchase service packages or any other required aftersales support.

A newly introduced SMART Q system can recognise customers based on their license plates and send queue tickets via automated SMS as they drive in for their service appointments. This system is said to be able to improve waiting times by up to 30 per cent.

Intrigued? Why not check out the process for yourself? Start with the Build and Price Configurator, create your very own “My Account” and check out the showroom thereafter.

Inchcape Singapore Gains EV Workshop Specialist AutoInsure https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=262534 Mon, 30 Jan 2023 08:06:00 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=262534 Inchcape Singapore expands their EV ecosystem with the acquisition of AutoInsure, who is experienced in EV maintenance and servicing.

Inchcape Singapore, the official dealer for Toyota, Lexus and Suzuki cars here in Singapore, has recently announced that they have acquired AutoInsure, an automotive workshop group that specialises in electric vehicle (EVs) maintenance.

As the world transitions to adopt a more eco-friendly approach, we are seeing more manufacturers pushing out new and state-of-the-art EVs. However, with their complex wiring systems and new-fangled battery technologies, some traditional workshops may not be up to the task to deal with these new EV vehicles. As such, the demand for EV-focused workshops are now all the rage, with companies such as Hyundai curating their own in-house solutions to satisfy demand.

AutoInsure was established back in 2014 and has since gone on to become an official partner of numerous fleet companies. The firm is also an authorised workshop for accident reporting and repairs, partnering with numerous insurance companies. With this new acquisition, AutoInsure will help Inchcape expand its scope into the EV market, as well as expand its customer base for accident repairs.

So what does this deal entail? With the signing, Inchcape will officially take over the location, facilities, and branding of AutoInsure, among others. This will also mean that Inchcape will be able to service vehicles outside of its own dealer ecosystem in the future.

“Mobility-driven innovations are central to our strategy of always delivering the best for our customers,” said Jasmmine Wong, CEO of Inchcape Greater China and Singapore.

“Through this acquisition, our customers now have access to a full suite of aftersales solutions – all in one place. Moving forward, thanks to our highly qualified teams, we will continue to uphold our promise of delivering excellent service and full support to our customers beyond the point of sale.”
