This high-performance engine oil is as much a technical marvel as it is a response to a shifting landscape, one where stop-start traffic, cooler running temperatures and engine reboots are the norm, not the exception.

“Hybrid cars need hybrid oil,” quipped Carlo Savoca, Chief Marketing Officer of Motul Asia Pacific. “NGEN Hybrid is designed to support fuel efficiency, protect engine components, and reduce environmental impact, all in one bottle.”

The engine in your average hybrid doesn’t behave like conventional cars. It’s off, then on. Then off again. The RPMs flirt with extremes. Electric motors kick in. The whole orchestra of propulsion is in constant flux. And that’s precisely where conventional oils fall short.

Motul NGEN Hybrid

Motul’s answer is NGEN Hybrid, a tailor-made solution with faster oil circulation, quicker pressure build-up, and low-speed pre-ignition protection that exceeds API SQ and ILSAC GF-7 standards.

8.1% improved fuel economy is claimed compared to regular 0W-20 oils, which is about 45 extra kilometres per tank, or one fewer stop at the petrol station every week.

But performance is only half the story. The other half is sustainability; Motul’s NGEN Hybrid is made with 10% regenerated base oils and bottled in containers that use 50% post-consumer recycled plastic.

With Southeast Asia’s hybrid vehicle market expected to grow at 18% CAGR until 2030, and countries like Indonesia and Thailand rolling out generous incentives for low-emission vehicles, the timing couldn’t be better.

Yet, despite the surge in hybrid ownership, Motul’s research shows that most drivers are still in the dark about the need for hybrid-specific engine oil. Many lean on bundled servicing packages and OEM-recommended fluids that don’t necessarily cater to the demands of hybrid systems. That’s a knowledge gap Motul is eager to close.

Motul NGEN Hybrid

Not content with just lubricating engines, Motul has also unveiled two new sidekicks in the hybrid care lineup:

  • NGEN MATIC ATF VI – An eco-designed automatic transmission fluid made with 30% RRBO, fit for gearboxes, transfer cases and power steering
  • E DOT 5.1 Brake Fluid – A synthetic long-life brake fluid engineered to meet the high-performance demands of modern hybrid and EV braking systems

NGEN Hybrid is available in SAE 0W-16 and 0W-20 viscosities. And whether you’re coasting through urban sprawl or quietly gliding down expressways in EV mode, the oil working behind the scenes ensures your hybrid system remains efficient, responsive, and protected.

New Motul NGEN Series Powers Into The Future https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=281372 Mon, 24 Mar 2025 17:02:22 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=281372 Say hello to NGEN, Motul’s latest engine oil series and quite possibly the brand’s most audacious step forward in its 170-year history.

Now, if you’ve ever turned a wrench or twisted a throttle, you’d know that Motul isn’t just some shelf-sitter in a supermarket aisle.

This is the company that brought the world the first fully synthetic four-stroke lubricant back in 1971, the legendary Motul 300V. But even legends know when it’s time to evolve.

And evolve it has.

Not just engine oil

Launched across Asia Pacific with much fanfare, the NGEN series is Motul’s answer to a future that demands both performance and eco-consciousness. The line-up kicks off with two flag bearers: NGEN 5 and NGEN 7.

Formulated with up to 75% regenerated base oils (for NGEN 5) and 50% (for NGEN 7), these oils are coupled with the brand’s trademark Ester technology, meaning both variants tick the green boxes without sacrificing a drop of performance.

Even the packaging gets in on the act, with fully recyclable bottles made from 50% recycled plastic.

Different riders, different needs

NGEN 5 is your everyday hero. Built for daily riders, urban warriors, and the occasional weekend explorer. Whether you’re navigating Orchard Road traffic or taking a lazy loop around Seletar, this oil promises smooth starts, optimal clutch engagement, and fuel efficiency.

Then there’s NGEN 7, the adrenaline junkie of the duo. It’s the one you want if your idea of “commute” includes leaning hard into corners or gunning it through Malaysia’s B-roads. Built for high-performance sports and adventure motorcycles, it thrives under heat, pressure, and expectation.

Both are certified to meet top global standards, from API SP to JASO MA2. In layman’s terms: they’re as legitimate as it gets.

“Motul is setting a new benchmark for the industry, where high performance and sustainability go hand in hand.”

Carlo Savoca, Chief Marketing Officer of Motul Asia Pacific
