polestar 4 – AutoApp Dev https://www.autoapp.sg/dev Thu, 23 Oct 2025 08:52:47 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9 Through the Looking Glass: How Polestar’s Digital Rear-View Mirror Rewrites the Rules https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=283810 Thu, 23 Oct 2025 08:52:47 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=283810 If you’ve ever tried to check your surroundings using a conventional rear-view mirror under challenging conditions, you’ll know the routine: squint, tilt, adjust, give up, then use your side mirrors.

Polestar decided there had to be a better way, and what they came up with was the digital rear-view mirror found on the Polestar 4, a neat piece of Scandinavian pragmatism wrapped in pixel precision and a radical step beyond traditional mirrors.

The view, and then some: 121 degrees of vision

Polestar 4 digital rear-view mirror

With a 121-degree field-of-view, the camera is wide enough to turn the familiar postage-stamp view of a traditional mirror into a cinematic panorama of what’s happening behind you. It’s the difference between peering through a keyhole and opening the door.

On the road, that breadth matters. You see more of the adjacent lanes, more of that fast-approaching motorbike, more of the tailgater edging out from your blind spot. The Polestar 2’s conventional mirror is clear and stable, but physics limits a piece of glass.

The Polestar 4’s camera and display neatly sidestep those constraints, painting a wider, more complete picture without distorting the scene.

Sharper than glass, calmer than your nerves

Polestar 4 digital rear-view mirror

We’ve all learned to live with the compromises of a traditional mirror: glare at night, reflections from the rear cabin, headrests slicing through the view. The digital display in the Polestar 4 serves up an image that’s crisper than plain glass and refreshingly free of visual clutter. Because the camera sits outside the cabin, you don’t see your own passengers, parcel shelf detritus, or the smudged outline of a child’s sticker from three years ago.

Does clarity really change how you drive? Absolutely. Your eyes spend less time deciphering what’s there and more time acting on it. Suddenly, everything behind you snaps into focus.

There’s cleverness in how Polestar has integrated the screen into the same aperture where you’d expect a mirror. No extra pod glued onto the windscreen, no annex carved out of the central infotainment screen. You glance where your muscle memory expects to glance, and the Polestar 4 respects that rhythm, simply modernising the note.

Crystal-clear, even under challenging conditions

Polestar 4 digital rear-view mirror

Singapore’s weather can go from “oven with steam function” to “submerged aquarium” in five minutes. Add night-time streetlamps, headlight glare and the occasional lightning show, and you’ve a cocktail that can flummox a traditional mirror.

The Polestar 4’s digital unit stays clear and legible through shifting lighting conditions. The system tempers bright sources, lifts shadows, and resists bloom, so you’re not dazzled by an SUV sitting high with full beams on. Drive from an open expressway into a tunnel and you won’t need to tweak a thing; the image adapts, calmly and quietly, while you keep your hands where they belong.

Innovation rarely stays still

Polestar 4

Polestar’s appeal has always leaned on a certain honesty: sustainable materials, considered design, engineering solutions that solve problems rather than chase headlines. The digital rear-view mirror in the Polestar 4 is precisely that kind of solution, showing just how fast the Swedes have been sharpening their tools.

Is it still “a mirror” if it’s a screen? Perhaps that’s the wrong question. The right one is: does it let you see more, more clearly, more of the time, without asking more of you?

In the Polestar 4, the answer is a calm, confident yes, and that is the kind of progress worth reflecting on.

Polestar 4 Long Range Dual Motor Review https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=277916 Thu, 10 Oct 2024 16:59:05 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=277916 The Polestar 4 is a radical coupe SUV that has one or two tricks up its Nordic-trimmed sleeve to take on the competition.

While Polestar and the rest of the industry refers to it as a “Coupe SUV,” in reality it’s not all that SUV-ish. Think of it as sitting somewhere between the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y in terms of size but with more luxury thrown in for good measure.

It bears a slight resemblance to the Jaguar I-Pace and has one very peculiar design choice.

Something Looks Different…

Polestar 4

You’ve probably noticed the lack of a rear windscreen. And no, it’s not a design afterthought where they filled in a missing part; this car was meant to be like this.

The idea is to boost rear headroom and comfort for passengers while also improving the aerodynamics of the car. Odd choice, but Polestar engineers love to push the envelope.

Polestar 4 rear seats

Instead of the usual rear glass, you get a massive panoramic glass roof that stretches over the heads of the rear passengers, flooding the cabin with light. It keeps things airy and spacious back there.

Polestar also says you can drop the rear divider to fit long items or, if you’re feeling brave, maybe even a dog.

But Why No Rear Windscreen?

The reasoning, according to Polestar, is that with the 4’s sleek and narrow fastback tail, a regular rear window would’ve ended up being a tiny letterbox, making a rear-view mirror pretty much useless. So, instead, they’ve installed a wide-angle camera on the roof, which beams a live feed to a screen where the mirror normally would be.

Now, Polestar assures us, “You’ll get used to it”. But honestly, we didn’t. The screen is just inches from your eyes, so instead of a quick glance, you have to focus and adjust, which feels unnatural.

Unlike a regular mirror where the reflection matches your road view’s distance, this setup is like staring at a TV that’s too close. So, like a van driver, you’ll probably find yourself relying more on the wing mirrors.

Clean And Stylish

Polestar 4 cabin

Looking past the quirky rear, the rest of the Polestar 4 is very much in line with the brand’s aesthetic; clean, minimalist, and unmistakably Scandinavian. Up front, the central touchscreen has gone landscape, spanning 15.4 inches. Drivers are supported by a 10.2-inch driver’s display and a 14.7-inch head-up display.

The interface is a step up from the 2 as well. The menus and colour palettes are simplified. Fewer taps, fewer headaches, a win for usability.

The front seats are sublime. And you’d think the lack of a rear windscreen might make things feel a bit claustrophobic back there, but the full-length glass roof stretches past the rear passengers’ heads, so it always feels light and airy.

Plus, the rear seats even come with a partial recline feature, which is a nice touch for longer drives.

The boot is spacious enough, clocking in at 526 litres, plus a frunk is handy for extra storage.

Neat Little Extras

The Polestar 4 also comes with some interesting in-car modes. ‘Keep Climate’ keeps the air-con running for up to 8 hours while the car is stationary, as does ‘Animal Mode’, but also puts a message on the centre screen to reassure any concerned passers-by that your pet isn’t roasting inside the car.

There’s also ‘Car Wash Mode’, which (before you get too excited) doesn’t automatically clean your car. It just preps the vehicle for going through a car wash.

And if you’re into celestial themes, the Polestar 4’s interior lighting is inspired by the planets. You can bask in the golden glow of the Sun, or, if you’re feeling a bit moody, opt for the atmospheric blues of Uranus.

And You Get All Of That In A Sleek Package

Polestar 4

The Polestar 4 is reserved and elegant, avoiding the flashiness of some rivals, yet still managing to turn heads with its confident design. It’s the kind of car that raises eyebrows and starts conversations, and in a world of cookie-cutter electric SUVs, that’s no bad thing.

And you will enjoy countless hours of confused driver expressions through the rear-view camera each time someone pulls up behind you.

Looks Good And All, But How’s The Driving Bit?

Polestar 4

Well, here’s the thing. The Polestar 4 is currently labelled the fastest Polestar you can buy in their line-up, but even in dual-motor guise, it doesn’t quite deliver the punch you’d expect.

Yes, it’s undeniably quick. 544hp and 686Nm allow you to rock the century sprint in 3.8 seconds.

But, power is delivered in a wave rather than in a neck-snapping instant, so a dual-motor Polestar 2 would still feel more punchy off the line. Though, to me that’s a good thing; you do not want to give your passengers unnecessary whiplash while ferrying them in the 4.

Polestar 4

It feels heavy, but that heft brings with it a sense of solid integrity, with no unwanted rattles or shakes from the body or suspension. The adaptive damping is spot on when it comes to high-frequency control, reining in the body and offering a more consistent and comfortable ride.

The steering offers three settings, but honestly, the heaviest one is the best. It gives you a more natural weight buildup as you turn the wheel. The lighter settings aren’t bad because they’re, well, lighter, but because they feel inconsistent when you’re adding lock.

Interestingly, the Performance Pack doesn’t boost power like it does in the Polestar 2. Instead, you get the Plus Pack and some fancy ‘Polestar Engineered’ chassis tuning, forged 22-inch wheels, Pirelli P-Zero tyres, and Brembo brake callipers, all accented with Swedish Gold.

What About Range?

On paper, the WLTP range is 590km for the dual-motor. Real-world numbers will likely be closer to 480-520km, but that’s still plenty for most people.

When it’s time to recharge, the Polestar 4 supports up to 200kW DC fast charging, so you can get from 10 to 80 percent in about half an hour on a speedy enough charger.

I’m Concerned About Safety Too

Polestar sticks to its Volvo-inspired safety ethos, so airbags, crash zones, and all the fancy tech to keep you and your passengers safe are front and centre.

Parking is a breeze too, with 12 ultrasonic sensors and 11 exterior cameras providing a clear 360 view. Heck, you probably don’t need to exit the vehicle in order to see what’s happening outside.

And That Is Why…

Polestar 4

The Polestar 4 is an intriguing ride with distinctive design elements. The interior is delightful, spacious, and the overall vibe is relaxed. While the lack of a rear window might be a learning curve for some, it’s a slope that’s extremely easy to conquer considering how much tech you get for your cash.

The sensible Swedes know how to design a thing or two, you know. Just look at their furniture.

Polestar Delivers First Customer Polestar 4 Unit In Singapore https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=277349 Fri, 13 Sep 2024 05:49:54 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=277349 Polestar has officially delivered the first unit of its Polestar 4 SUV coupé to Singapore.

With deliveries already rolling out in China and Europe, Singapore joins the growing list of countries with the new Polestar 4.

The 4 has the minimalist, Scandinavian design language that Polestar is known for, but with a design that harks back to the Polestar Precept concept car, featuring some striking innovations that are sure to turn heads.

The elimination of the rear window is its most prominent feature, and instead, you get an immersive experience for rear passengers, and a cleaner, more futuristic look that embodies Polestar’s forward-thinking ethos.

The Polestar 4 is designed to slice through the air with remarkable efficiency, with its low nose, retractable door handles, and flush glazing with frameless windows. The rear aero blades and optimised airflow around the rear light bar further enhance the car’s sleek, streamlined profile.

With a wheelbase of nearly 3 metres, there’s ample room inside, particularly in the rear, where passengers are treated to a unique cocoon-like environment with reclining seats. And if that wasn’t enough, Polestar’s ambient lighting, inspired by the solar system, allows you to tailor the mood to your liking.

Thanks to the absence of a rear window, the panoramic glass roof extends beyond the rear seats, creating a one-of-a-kind, open-air feel.

And for those concerned about the view, don’t worry, the rear-view mirror is replaced with a high-definition screen, offering a real-time feed from a roof-mounted camera. It’s a feature that provides a far wider field of vision than your traditional mirror setup.

The Polestar 4 is the fastest production car in the brand’s lineup. The Long Range Dual Motor version puts down 544hp, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

For those who prefer a more relaxed, rear-wheel drive experience, the Single Motor variant still delivers an impressive 272hp and a range of up to 620km, according to WLTP standards. Both variants come equipped with a 100kWh battery, and if you’re driving around Singapore, the range should be more than enough to keep range anxiety at bay.

And for Singapore owners, the Pilot and Plus Packs come standard in Singapore, whilst an optional Pro pack is on offer for those who wish to stand out more.

Polestar 4 pricing starts at SGD320,000 for the Single Motor variant and SGD370,000 for the Dual Motor, inclusive of COE.

Test drives are now available at Polestar’s sleek showroom on Leng Kee Road, where you can experience the future of electric mobility for yourself.

Polestar Concept BST Shines at Goodwood Festival of Speed Alongside Expanded Line-Up https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=276077 Fri, 12 Jul 2024 07:49:01 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=276077 Polestar is back at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, flaunting its expanded model line-up and new concept models like the Polestar Concept BST.

The new Polestar 3 and 4 electric SUVs join the Polestar 2, but the true star of the show is the Polestar Concept BST, making its global debut. The Polestar 6 Concept, a sleek roadster, has also made its debut at the festival.

Polestar’s CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, added: “Now we are a brand with three models in production, and it’s great to see them here together for the first time at a global event. Goodwood Festival of Speed is full of the most exciting cars and the most enthusiastic crowds, so it’s the perfect place for us to tease our Polestar Concept BST.”

The Polestar Concept BST boasts bespoke bodywork finished in classic motorsport silver. Its muscular flared arches, extra-wide track, and 22-inch forged alloy wheels scream performance.

The aerodynamically optimised bonnet, with its unique vented design, is framed by an aggressive front splitter. The motorsport theme continues at the rear with an extreme rear wing and a design completed by bespoke racing-livery-inspired graphics.

Not to be outdone, the Polestar 6 Concept will thrill the crowds as it tackles the 1.2-mile-long hill climb. Engineered alongside the Polestar 5 and utilising the bespoke bonded aluminium Polestar Performance Architecture (PPA) platform, the Polestar 6 represents the pinnacle of the current lineup.

This year, Electric Avenue hosts the Polestar 4, giving consumers the chance to experience Polestar’s models firsthand with test drives along Molecomb Drive within the famous Goodwood estate. Interested parties can sign up for test drives at the stand.

For those in Singapore, the Polestar 4 is now available for viewing at the local showroom, located at 45 Leng Kee Road.

Polestar 4 SUV Previewed in Singapore https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=275317 Thu, 13 Jun 2024 17:17:53 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=275317 Polestar 4 is now available for viewing at the Polestar Space at 45 Leng Kee Road.

The Polestar 2 has been around for some time, and we’ve reviewed both the single motor and dual motor variants. In time to come, the Polestar 4 is set to join the ranks as the company’s second SUV offering in Singapore.

“With Polestar 4 we have taken a fundamentally new approach to SUV coupé design. Rather than simply modifying an existing SUV, giving it a faster roofline and as a result, compromising elements like rear headroom and comfort, we have designed Polestar 4 from the ground up as a new breed of SUV coupé that celebrates rear occupant comfort and experience,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.

The most notable element of the Polestar 4 is the elimination of the rear windscreen. Instead, a giant panoramic sunroof is installed, and a camera feeds the rear-view mirror on the inside.

It’s also built on the premium Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) developed by Geely Holding. The result is an SUV coupe with a large body and 2,999mm long wheelbase, which means more legroom for occupants. Overall length is 4,840 mm, width is 2,139 mm and height is 1,534 mm.

True to the company’s name, Polestar, more celestial bodies are introduced to the interior courtesy of ambient lighting themes. Choose from planets such as Earth, Jupiter and Saturn to change the interior ambient colour scheme to your solar system-based preference.

The interior materials are based on recycled polyester-based knit textiles along with bio-attributed MicroTech vinyl.

Optionally, animal welfare-secured Nappa leather will also be offered, along with ventilation, massage and headrest speakers for the front seats, and rear comfort headrests for the back passengers.

Two colour schemes will also be on offer for the soft-touch interior materials, namely Zinc and Charcoal, and a new colour called Mist. New exterior colours will also be on offer, including Gold, Storm and Electron.

The Polestar 4 also offers a much larger battery pack, to the tune of 100kWh for both Long Range versions. This is right up there with premium and luxury brands’ offerings in the market.

Needless to say, this Swedish SUV coupe has the new electric Porsche Macan firmly in its sights.

The Long-range Dual motor features 544 hp and 686 Nm of torque, with a preliminary WLTP range of up to 590km. A disconnect clutch allows the car to disengage the front electric motor when not needed, to maximise range and efficiency.

The Long-range single-motor version features a 272hp and 343Nm motor at the rear and preliminary WLTP range of up to 620km.

Up to 200 kW DC and 22 kW AC charging is included for both versions, and the charge lid is motorised. Bi-directional charging hardware is also included.

The infotainment system is powered by Android Automotive OS and the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform now utilises a 15.4-inch landscape-oriented screen. Over-the-air updates will keep the infotainment system current, with new features being added when available.

A Harman Kardon audio system with 12 speakers and a 1,400-watt channel-hybrid amplifier comes with the Plus Pack as standard.

Seven airbags are included as standard. Further aiding safety are twelve cameras, one radar and twelve ultrasonic sensors that come standard-fit. This includes a driver monitoring camera, which only relays data and does not record video, to monitor the driver’s eyes and head movements to help avoid incidents related to fatigue or incapacitation.

A 10.2-inch driver display is mounted ahead of the steering column and includes speed, battery and range information. To reduce distraction, a head-up display (HUD) with a 14.7-inch projection area in front of the driver relays key vehicle, telephony and navigation information to the windscreen.

Enhanced Pilot Assist with lane change assist, initiated by the driver tapping the indicator stalk in the desired direction is also available in the Polestar 4 SUV.

The vehicles coming to Singapore will be highly specified, with Pilot and Plus Packs as standard. The optional Pro Pack includes 21-inch wheels and subtle design details such as seat belts with a Swedish gold stripe & valve caps.

For customers looking at the fire-breathing version of the Polestar 4 Long-range Dual motor variant, the optional Performance Pack offers 22-inch rims, four-piston Brembo brakes, Polestar Engineered performance chassis tuning and Swedish gold details for the brakes, seat belts and valve caps.

Indicative pricing, excluding COE, for the single motor variant is from $195,000, and $245,000 for the dual motor version, both as long range models. Deliveries in Singapore are expected to commence from Q3 2024. Contact Polestar Singapore for more information.

Polestar 4 Now Available in Europe and Australia https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=271680 Wed, 07 Feb 2024 15:37:26 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=271680 The all-new Polestar 4 has just gone on sale in Europe and Australia, and is expected to launch in other territories soon.

The Polestar 4 has officially gone on sale in European and Australian markets.

This sleek SUV coupe, which began rolling off the Chinese production lines back in November last year, is prepping for a mid-2024 production start, with the keys expected to be in the hands of eager drivers by August 2024.

Nestled comfortably between the sprightly Polestar 2 and the robust Polestar 3, the Polestar 4 boasts the lowest carbon footprint in the Polestar family, making it a green beacon in the lineup.

Eco-friendly badge aside, this car is also fast to boot. With the Long Range Dual Motor version pumping out 537bhp and 686Nm of torque, it sprints from zero to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

It’s Polestar’s quickest production car ever too. Have your cake and eat it too.

For those in Singapore itching to get behind the wheel of other Polestar models, Wearnes Automotive has previously hinted that the Polestar 3 will be arriving around Q3 of 2024. Pricing is under wraps for now.

Polestar 4 To Be Revealed At 2023 Shanghai Auto Show https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=263661 Wed, 12 Apr 2023 17:32:34 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=263661  Polestar’s latest coupé-SUV will make its global debut at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show.

Following the success of its current crop of models, the Polestar 4, the marque’s latest coupe-SUV, is poised to make its global debut on the 18th of April 2023 at the Shanghai Auto Show.

The Polestar 4 is the newest model in Polestar’s revamped lineup, and it’ll be featured alongside the Polestar 3 SUV and facelifted Polestar 2.

Not much has been revealed at the moment, but the new coupé-SUV will borrow design elements from Polestar’s concept vehicles.

It is also rumoured to be the brand’s newest and fastest vehicle when it enters production, even trumping over the current king – the Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor with the optional Performance Pack. So expect a dual motor setup with lots of instant torque to boot.

The Polestar 4 will probably stay in the limelight until the hotly-anticipated Polestar 5, which is the marque’s upcoming flagship 4-door GT, claims its spot when it debuts sometime in 2024.

“Polestar 4 is not simply a modified version of our first SUV,” says Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, “Instead, we reconsidered the entire design to create a new breed of SUV coupé.”

If the current models are anything to go by, we should be looking forward to good things when the reveal happens on the 18th. Watch this space.
