road closures – AutoApp Dev https://www.autoapp.sg/dev Mon, 09 Sep 2024 03:00:00 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.4 Singapore Grand Prix 2024 Road Closures https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=277216 Mon, 09 Sep 2024 03:00:00 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=277216 As Formula 1 season approaches, motorists should prepare for road closures during the Singapore Grand Prix.

These closures are essential for event preparations and will take place over seven days, from 18 to 24 September 2024. While navigating through the city during this period might seem confusing, there are plenty of alternative travel options to help ease the disruption.

During the Formula 1 weekend, roads in the vicinity will be closed in phases, gradually reopening after the race weekend. If you’re planning to travel into the area, public transport will be your best friend.

Alternatively, you can rely on taxis or private hire cars, especially during peak hours when access to key roads will be limited.

The organisers have thoughtfully planned a phased approach, meaning roads will progressively reopen as the race wraps up. Full access will be restored by 5:30am on 24 September 2024, so by Tuesday morning, everything should be back to normal.

Morning and Evening Access Windows for Key Roads

For those commuting during peak hours, specific road corridors will be accessible at selected times. These temporary openings are meant to facilitate traffic flow into and out of the city, ensuring that your daily commute won’t grind to a halt.

18 & 19 September (5:30am to 10:00am)

  • Towards Orchard Road: Collyer Quay >> St Andrew’s Road >> Stamford Road
  • Towards Shenton Way: Nicoll Highway >> Esplanade Drive / Stamford Road
  • Towards Marina Boulevard: Republic Boulevard >> Raffles Avenue >> Bayfront Avenue

20 September (5:30am to 10:00am)

  • Towards Orchard Road: Same as above
  • Towards Shenton Way: Same as above

23 September (5:30am to 10:00am & 5:00pm to 8:30pm)

  • Towards Shenton Way: Nicoll Highway >> Esplanade Drive or Bras Basah Road >> Nicoll Highway >> Esplanade Drive
  • Towards ECP (Changi Airport): Bras Basah Road >> Raffles Boulevard >> Republic Boulevard
  • Towards Marina Boulevard: Raffles Boulevard >> Temasek Avenue >> Bayfront Avenue
  • Towards Orchard Road (evening only): Esplanade Drive >> Nicoll Highway / Stamford Road

Extended Public Transport Hours

For race fans or those just trying to get around during the event weekend (20 to 22 September), train services on the North-South Line (NSL) and East-West Line (EWL) will run later than usual, with the last trains departing from City Hall MRT station at 12:30am on Friday and Saturday, and at 12:45am on Sunday.

Other train lines will also extend operating hours, making it easier to catch a late ride home after soaking up the race-day excitement.

Certain bus services connecting to MRT stations will also enjoy extended operating hours.

Limited Driving Access

Singapore – June 01, 2024: Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix Pit Building with Ferris Wheel

If you really need to drive into town, there will be limited access during non-peak hours via Rochor Road to Temasek Boulevard or a single lane along Raffles Boulevard via Nicoll Highway/Temasek Boulevard. However, this access is only available at specific times:

18, 19, 20, and 23 September

  • Midnight to 6:00am, 10:00am to 5:00pm, and 10:00pm to midnight

21 and 22 September

  • Midnight to 1:00pm

24 September

  • Midnight to 5:30am (after which all roads will reopen)

During these hours, the single-lane access will be open to taxis and motorcycles at all times, except during race hours. For a full list of transport options and a more detailed guide to the formula 1 road closures during the race period, you can find the relevant information here or here.
