Shanghai – AutoApp Dev https://www.autoapp.sg/dev Fri, 25 Apr 2025 10:23:44 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9 BYD Ocean Series Makes Waves at Auto Shanghai 2025 https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=281935 Fri, 25 Apr 2025 10:23:44 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=281935 With the global unveiling of five fresh models under its Ocean Series banner, BYD has thrown down the gauntlet.

The important model of the bunch is the BYD Ocean-S Concept. It’s a glimpse into BYD’s future design direction: long, elegant lines, fluidic curves, and a futuristic front fascia.

The interior is a wraparound cocoon of innovation, with seats that echo sea creatures, ambient lighting reminiscent of oceanic bioluminescence.

Moving into deeper waters, the SEALION 06 swims into view as a mid-size SUV with big ambitions. It comes in two flavours, the DM-i (hybrid) and EV (fully electric), and both are built on BYD’s latest e-Platform 3.0 Evo and fifth-generation DM technology.

Then comes the SEAL 06 EV, a pure electric mid-size sedan designed for younger, tech-savvy drivers who want both brains and beauty. Built atop the same e-Platform 3.0 Evo, this one packs the latest DiPilot 100 and DiSus-C systems for a drive that’s both intelligent and intuitive.

For those who crave flexibility, the SEAL 06 DM-i Travel Edition offers the best of both worlds. It’s the world’s first super-hybrid wagon, combining sedan agility with SUV utility.

You get the long-distance prowess of BYD’s fifth-gen DM system, paired with a body style that actually makes sense for families, adventurers, and anyone who doesn’t want to compromise on either boot space or fuel economy. This one’s very nice.

Beyond the new debuts, BYD brought along a few returning champions. The D9 MPV remains a sales juggernaut in China; over 300,000 units moved and counting. The refreshed 2025 N7, now decked out with a carbon-fibre styling package, is gunning for the younger premium crowd.

Expect to see these models sometime in the near future on our roads.

XPENG Unveils AI-Driven Revolution At Auto Shanghai 2025 https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=281921 Fri, 25 Apr 2025 10:00:46 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=281921 At Auto Shanghai 2025, XPENG Motors announced an AI-driven future that’s as thrilling as it is groundbreaking.

He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO, didn’t mince words at the unveiling: “We’re not merely launching products today,” he announced, confidently, “but fundamentally redefining what an automotive company can be.”

And redefine they certainly did, with XPENG’s new World Foundation Model, affectionately called the “AI Brain.” Imagine this as a supercomputer for cars, with 35 times more processing power than conventional Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models.

This allows vehicles to self-optimise and adapt in real-time to complex, unfamiliar driving scenarios. Think of it as giving your car the cognitive flexibility of a human brain, with a whole lot less complaining about Monday mornings.

Then there’s the XPENG P7+, a flagship sedan that grabbed the spotlight with its revolutionary 5C Supercharging AI Battery technology. Imagine pulling into a charging station, popping in for a quick coffee, and returning just 10 minutes later with enough juice to travel another 420 kilometres.

Coupled with industry-leading efficiency figures of 12.7kWh/100km, it makes traditional EV charging speeds seem almost pedestrian by comparison.

And speaking of impressive milestones, XPENG’s new electric MPV, the X9, clocked 6,000 firm orders in just seven days, a record-setting performance in the electric MPV segment.

But XPENG didn’t stop at just four wheels. They showcased a humanoid robot named IRON at Auto Shanghai 2025. Standing at a human-like 178cm, IRON moves with startling realism, right down to its 22 degrees of freedom in each dexterous hand.

Watching it perform tasks with seamless precision while casually chatting through XPENG’s smart cockpit AI reminded me less of machinery and more of a charming, albeit slightly metallic, assistant.

Closer to home, XPENG’s partnership with Premium Automobiles has firmly planted their flag in Singapore. Since July 2024, Premium Automobiles has successfully introduced vehicles like the XPENG G6 coupe SUV and the X9 MPV, catering to an increasingly tech-savvy and environmentally conscious Singaporean market.

As He Xiaopeng eloquently summed up, XPENG is reimagining the future of mobility. Expect to see more innovations in due course.

BMW Vision Driving Experience Shines in Shanghai https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=281900 Thu, 24 Apr 2025 17:15:46 +0000 https://www.autoapp.sg/?p=281900 BMW decided to flex its muscles and showcase just what its electric models are capable of at Shanghai’s Vision Driving Experience.

When you think of BMW, you probably picture the classic internal combustion growl, right? Yet, standing trackside in Shanghai, the whisper-quiet agility of BMW’s electrified fleet painted a compelling portrait of the future. One might ask, “Can electricity really ignite the senses as petrol power does?”

Against the dazzling backdrop of one of Asia’s most vibrant cities, a specially designed course was laid out for the BMW Vision Driving Experience, serving as the stage for these mechanical performers. The stars of the show were a hand-picked lineup of BMW’s most advanced electric vehicles.

Drivers showcased dynamic capabilities from sharp acceleration to cornering. Every manoeuvre was an emphatic declaration: BMW is all-in on electric mobility, and the brand’s signature driving pleasure remains alive, even without the roar of engines.

The gleaming paintwork on these vehicles wasn’t just there to look pretty, but there to reflect a heritage of craftsmanship. Each car, from the iX1 to the i7, sparkled brilliantly, reminding spectators that BMW’s attention to detail extends far beyond performance.

Polestar 4 To Be Revealed At 2023 Shanghai Auto Show https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=263661 Wed, 12 Apr 2023 17:32:34 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=263661  Polestar’s latest coupé-SUV will make its global debut at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show.

Following the success of its current crop of models, the Polestar 4, the marque’s latest coupe-SUV, is poised to make its global debut on the 18th of April 2023 at the Shanghai Auto Show.

The Polestar 4 is the newest model in Polestar’s revamped lineup, and it’ll be featured alongside the Polestar 3 SUV and facelifted Polestar 2.

Not much has been revealed at the moment, but the new coupé-SUV will borrow design elements from Polestar’s concept vehicles.

It is also rumoured to be the brand’s newest and fastest vehicle when it enters production, even trumping over the current king – the Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor with the optional Performance Pack. So expect a dual motor setup with lots of instant torque to boot.

The Polestar 4 will probably stay in the limelight until the hotly-anticipated Polestar 5, which is the marque’s upcoming flagship 4-door GT, claims its spot when it debuts sometime in 2024.

“Polestar 4 is not simply a modified version of our first SUV,” says Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, “Instead, we reconsidered the entire design to create a new breed of SUV coupé.”

If the current models are anything to go by, we should be looking forward to good things when the reveal happens on the 18th. Watch this space.

All-New Lexus LM To Debut At Shanghai Auto Show https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=263646 Wed, 12 Apr 2023 17:25:41 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=263646 Lexus will debut an all-new LM MPV at the Shanghai Auto Show.

Lexus is poised to debut an all-new LM MPV at the upcoming 2023 Shanghai Auto Show. This marks the second generation of their flagship MPV, and according to the Japanese carmaker, the new “flagship people carrier” will be the first LM model to join its European model line-up.

Not much has been revealed, but two teaser images were released, giving us some (used strongly here) of what it will look like. Even with this tiny preview, the next-generation model is set to look quintessentially Lexus, a detract from the original LM which was based on and is a near-identical copy of the Toyota Alphard. The original LM was offered with either 4 or 7 seats, the former masquerading as a limo shuttle of sorts. Two powertrain options powered the MPV, and buyers could opt for either a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder hybrid or a 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V6.

The new LM is expected to continue this trend, which possibly hints at the reveal of the fourth-generation Toyota Alphard as well.

We’ll have to wait till the official reveal to get the full updates. Watch this space.

A new EV concept model designed and made for China will take centre stage alongside the Nissan Max-Out. Both offer exciting and confident driving experiences that are tailored to a broad range of lifestyles and needs while supporting Nissan’s future global plans and ambitions.

Maxed out for the future

Now a physical reality, the convertible concept promises to deliver a new driving experience with superlative stability and comfort.

Nissan will also showcase electrified vehicles featuring all-electric and e-POWER powertrains. These vehicles embody the company’s approach to changing how cars are powered, driven and integrated into society, and show how Nissan is committed to making vehicles that will be at the forefront of innovation.

The 20th Shanghai International Automobile Exhibition will be held from April 18-27 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center. We can’t wait to see what Nissan has in store for us all.
