In the heart of Singapore, under the shimmering lights and eager gazes of over 250 distinguished guests and media, the stage was set for something monumental.

It’s not every day that you witness a storied marque like Automobili Lamborghini celebrate its 60th anniversary. And boy, did they make it count. Enter the Lamborghini Revuelto, a name that might roll off your tongue in a peculiar fashion, but this is a super sports car that commands attention at first glance.

The Revuelto isn’t just a car; it’s an amalgamation of groundbreaking engineering, impeccable design, and a dash of futuristic flair. Under its sculpted hood lies a 6.5-litre V12 engine, but this isn’t your grandfather’s V12.

It’s lighter, more potent, and packs a punch like never before. A staggering 813hp at 9,250 rpm and 725Nm of torque – all without the need for turbochargers. Oh, and it’s a hybrid as well; we’ve got two electric motors for the front wheels and a third nestled within the innovative 8-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox. That gearbox, by the way, is making its grand entrance into the world of 12-cylinder Lamborghinis for the very first time.

Now, let’s talk batteries. The Revuelto’s got a small but mighty lithium-ion battery pack that’s capable of 10 kilometres of electric-only range. That might not sound like much, but it’s enough to zip through city streets emission-free and access places where internal combustion engines dare not tread. The engine can also recharge that tiny battery in just six minutes.

Lamborghini’s always been about pushing boundaries, and the Revuelto is no different. It’s all-wheel drive, offering a combined whopping 1,001bhp to the tarmac. But, flick a switch, and you can tiptoe around town with a feather-light 180bhp in full electric mode, thanks to the front e-axle and transmission-mounted electric motor. Versatility, thy name is Revuelto.

Of course, carbon fibre takes centre stage here, handcrafted by artisans at the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory. It’s everywhere – in the monofuselage, frame, and pretty much every nook and cranny of the bodywork, except for the doors and bumpers.

This extensive use of lightweight materials, combined with the ferocious engine power, results in a weight-to-power ratio that’s the best in Lamborghini history: 1.72 kg/hp.

Performance, you ask? Well, a century sprint in a mere 2.5 seconds, 0-200 km/h in less than 7 seconds, and a top speed that exceeds 350 km/h. Now, Lamborghini is calling the Revuelto a “high-performance electrified vehicle” or HPEV, replacing the usual PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) moniker. But no matter what you call it, one thing’s for sure – it’s got some serious hardware under the hood to make it not just fast in a straight line but nimble around corners.

The rear-axle steering system enhances turn-in and stability, and the whole chassis is lighter and stiffer. For the first time ever, Lamborghini has bestowed upon us electric torque vectoring, capable of sending precise power to each wheel. It’s all about enhancing that natural driving experience.

And then there are the brakes. Carbon-ceramic stoppers at each corner, with ten-piston front callipers biting down on massive 16.1-inch discs. The rear gets four-piston calipers and 15.4-inch discs. It’s a setup that means business, ensuring the Revuelto can stop as aggressively as it accelerates.

Might I add, it looks right at home on your bedroom wall? The Revuelto is a work of art on wheels, a symphony of lines and curves that captivates the eye. It’s a Lamborghini through and through, with a design DNA that’s unmistakable. But it’s also a departure from the past, ushering in a new stylistic language. It pays homage to the legendary V12 cars of yesteryears, with a shape that’s both nostalgic and futuristic.

The Y motif is used extensively both inside and out. The headlights and taillights sport a Y structure, the side air intakes resemble an arrow, and even the dash incorporates a striking Y shape. It’s all about modern “aerospace elements,” and when you see it, you’ll understand. The Revuelto doesn’t just look like a supercar; it looks like something that’s descended from the future.

But it’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about aerodynamics too. The front splitter channels air away from the front wheels, while the rear boasts a wild diffuser that generates downforce while cooling the engine. The active rear wing adjusts as needed, ensuring optimal performance whether you’re on the track or cruising on the streets.

Inside, the Y motif continues, with three digital screens. The driver gets a 12.3-inch digital readout, while the passenger enjoys a narrow 9.1-inch screen that also displays vital vehicle information.

It’s not just about screens; it’s about experience. The passenger, affectionately referred to as the co-pilot, takes charge of climate functions, navigation, and music selection, allowing the driver to focus on the road. With seven drive settings and various sub-functions, there are 13 different modes to choose from, ensuring that every drive is tailored to perfection.

And let’s not forget the environmentally-conscious side of the Revuelto. Lamborghini has embraced new processes for manufacturing materials, making them more efficient. The upholstery combines various leathers with microfiber made from recycled polyester. And with 70 different colour options for the cockpit, you can truly make it your own.

Tech-wise, the Revuelto might not be an S-Class, but it’s no slouch either. Advanced navigation, Amazon Alexa integration, and over-the-air updates keep everything fresh and up-to-date. The Lamborghini Unica app lets owners remotely control door locks and preset driving parameters, ensuring that this beast is always ready for action.

A digital art piece named “Icons of a Tropical Future” was unveiled alongside the Revuelto, created by Singaporean visual artist Howie Kim. It seamlessly blends Lamborghini’s forward-looking philosophy with iconic symbols of Singapore, depicting the 350GT,

Lamborghini’s first-ever production car. It’s a tribute to timelessness and the brand’s journey of growth and innovation over the decades.

Francesco Scardaoni, the Region Director for the Asia Pacific at Automobili Lamborghini, put it best, “I believe that this car is an interpretation of the brand going beyond, and how we revolutionized the automotive world with our iconic V12.”

If you wanted to place an order for one, too bad. The Revuelto is sold out until 2025. But if you’ve got more than SGD$2.5 million to spare (not including the sky-high COE), you could have one of your own. It’s not just a car; it’s a statement, a piece of automotive history, and a glimpse into the electrified future.

Rolls-Royce Unveils Black Badge Cullinan ‘Blue Shadow’ Private Collection https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=264817 Thu, 15 Jun 2023 05:48:12 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=264817 Talk about making your already exclusive Rolls-Royce even more attractive. This is the Rolls-Royce Black Badge Cullinan ‘Blue Shadow’.

Rolls-Royce has recently unveiled the Black Badge Cullinan ‘Blue Shadow’ Private Collection, a tribute to the ‘vastness and enigma of outer space’. The designers at Rolls-Royce drew inspiration from the Kármán Line, an invisible threshold located 62 miles above the Earth’s surface.

Limited to 62 examples worldwide, each representing a mile from Earth to the Kármán Line, this exclusive interpretation of the Black Badge Cullinan is available through Rolls-Royce’s prestigious Private Offices.

The exterior of the ‘Blue Shadow’ is adorned with a shimmering bespoke paint called ‘Stardust Blue,’ which perfectly captures the rich blue hues found in the upper layers of our planet’s atmosphere.

A satin-tinted grille surround and aero bumper inserts pay tribute to the thermal tiles found on spacecraft. The wheels of the Blue Shadow are subtly darkened using a translucent lacquer, completing the exterior aesthetic.

On the inside, the Rolls-Royce Starlight Headliner now features an intricate Moon embroidery, surrounded by a constellation of ‘stars’. Each ‘star’ is painstakingly added by hand, each with its own twinkling effect.

In a first for Rolls-Royce, the front and rear seats of the Blue Shadow both feature perforated artwork, inspired by the breathtaking view of Earth from space. Tiny perforations in the leather create a pattern reminiscent of ever-shifting clouds gracefully swirling above the continents and oceans.

The perforation pattern adorns the backs of the picnic tables as well. When lowered, these tables reveal a Piano Black veneer finish with a glass sparkle.

To complement the Black Badge Cullinan Blue Shadow, the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective has crafted a series of unique accessories.

An exclusive indoor car cover showcases a pattern reminiscent of the seats, and a bespoke luggage set complements the colour scheme of the Private Collection.

Additionally, clients can commission an exact 1:8 scale replica of their full-size Black Badge Cullinan Blue Shadow, complete with fully functioning exterior and interior lights, coach doors that open and close, and meticulous recreation of all the Collection’s details, including the Bespoke Illuminated Collection Treadplates.

I mean, got to flex it even in the living room right?

If you have insanely deep pockets, better be quick about ordering your Cullinan ‘Blue Shadow’. Orders are pouring in from Japan, Korea, Australia, and Singapore in the Asia-Pacific Region.

All-New Lexus RZ unveiled For Singapore https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=263993 Fri, 28 Apr 2023 06:36:18 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=263993 Borneo Motors Singapore, Lexus’ authorised car distributor, revealed the launch of the all-new RZ 450e, Lexus’ first 100 per cent Battery EV (BEV).

This is a significant milestone for Lexus, as it marks a new era for the ‘Lexus Electrified’ vision, moving Lexus towards its goal of a sustainable global society.

The RZ retains all of the exquisite qualities of performance and craftsmanship that are distinctive to Lexus, down to the luxury, comfort and craftsmanship that come with the premium Japanese brand.

Evolution of Lexus Driving Signature

As Lexus’ first global BEV model, the all-new RZ embodies quintessential Lexus DNA and a unique driving experience made through advanced, electrified technology.

To qualm any potential EV charging niggles, the RZ includes a high-efficiency compact, lightweight onboard charger. Both AC and DC Charging are available, and the system allows for 10 to 80 per cent fast charging within just half an hour.

The utilisation of a BEV-specific platform (eTNGA), as well as a lightweight and highly rigid body has also enhanced performance by achieving optimal weight distribution. Plus, avant-garde technology such as DIRECT4 – an all-wheel drive (AWD) system that achieves quick and linear responses according to the driver’s input – and a Steer-by-Wire system bring the Lexus Driving Signature to even greater levels.

The RZ also marks the first application of Lexus’ new e-Axles, which are dual motor units that work in conjunction with the new DIRECT4 all-wheel electronic drive torque control. This results in better handling stability and optimised power consumption, enabling the RZ to rock the century sprint in just 5.3 seconds.

Lexus is also debuting its first Steer-by-Wire system. It enables steering controls to be transmitted via electrical signals and not a traditional mechanical linkage. The control’s steering angle is also stable and precise, eliminating the need for hand-over-hand operation at intersections, U-turns and winding roads. However, the Yoke that was supposed to debut in this car isn’t available yet for Singapore, and will only arrive sometime in the near future.

Other innovations include improved Frequency Reactive Dampers and an all-new Braking Posture Control. The Frequency Reactive Dampers are frequency-sensitive absorbers that alter dampening force in response to different road surfaces, while the Braking Posture Control refers to a new pressurisation unit that enables coordinated front and rear regenerative braking through independent front and rear hydraulic control.

New looks that retain old charm

Designers for the all-new Lexus RZ have given it distinctive new looks but kept most of Lexus’ existing design language. The signature spindle grille is now replaced by a BEV Spindle Body since the front does not require any inlets for cooling.

The new front end focuses on aerodynamic efficiencies, optimised proportions and style, and this styling evolution ushers in a new aesthetic for Lexus EV offerings moving forward. The car is available in six futuristic exterior colours and three dual-tone colours, including metallic textures like Sonic Copper.

Lexus also wants the RZ to exude sustainability. This is done through the application of mindfully sourced materials, where the Tazuna-inspired cabin is adorned with high-quality suede door trims and premium seat upholstery made with 30 per cent bio-based sustainable materials.

Peace of mind through advanced safety technologies

Of course, safety is all the rage these days, and the all-new Lexus RZ is equipped with the latest Lexus Safety System+3.0 alongside a host of innovative safety features. These include:

  • Pre-Collision Safety
  • Lane Departure Alert
  • Advanced Park
  • Emergency Driving Stop System

More miles mean more smiles

To celebrate Lexus’ first pure BEV, Borneo Motors Singapore (BMS) and Shell are collaborating to offer new RZ owners in Singapore up to one-year free Shell Recharge credits:

  • 3,300 kWh for non-landed property owners
  • 600kWh for landed property owners

BMS will also provide new RZ owners with an eight-year Bumper to Bumper warranty,  including the EV battery. There is also a five-year ‘Lexus Electrification’ package customised for EV owners, covering a wide range of essential servicing replacement items such as brake pads, tyres and wiper repair.

“We are thrilled to kick off a new chapter and reimagine electrified driving by introducing Lexus’ first pure Battery Electric Vehicle to Singapore. Expect a dynamic and even more intuitive driving experience with the RZ 450e which will quench drivers’ desire for driving satisfaction and luxurious comfort. Lexus will broaden its ‘Lexus Electrified’ portfolio to exceed the needs and expectations of a more diverse set of luxury consumers,” said Jasmmine Wong, CEO of Inchcape Greater China and Singapore.

Toyota Unveils New 2023 Prius, And Boy Does It Look Cool https://www.autoapp.sg/dev/?p=261540 Wed, 16 Nov 2022 20:33:15 +0000 https://autoapp.sg/?p=261540 Toyota has taken the cover off the new 2023 Prius, and the company is confident that hybrids will stick around amidst the fanfare of electrification.

Toyota, the world’s number one automaker, pioneered mass-market hybrid vehicles with the launch of the Prius back in 1997. This wedge-shaped block of cheese was indeed dull, and soon became the laughing stock of automotive subculture.

However, what the Prius excelled in was its inert ability to save fuel, and that cemented its place as one of the world’s most iconic hybrid vehicles.

Since its debut, Toyota has sold approximately 5.05 million Priuses to date, with this new generation being its fifth iteration. To put that into perspective, Tesla has barely passed the 3 million mark, and that figure is a cumulative sum of all of its production models. Sales peaked in 2010, with more than 500,000 units sold worldwide. Even though Prius sales have since tapered off, its hybrid technology has trickled down into other Toyota models.

Why isn’t there an EV model you might ask?

Well, Toyota contends that its hybrid technology still has a long roadmap ahead of it. It’s definitely an interesting toss-up, in a world where most other car manufacturers are grasping to seize a bite of the global EV pie.

So what’s changed?

Toyota mainly focused on two areas for the new Prius, according to Satoki Oya, a deputy chief engineer at Toyota – Design and Drivability.

While the new Prius is instantly recognisable thanks to its distinctive teardrop shape, the lower stance, sleeker body, shark-like nose, and futuristic-looking headlights and taillights elevate the once bland and boring commuter into an entirely new design realm. Dare I say it, it actually looks quite good.

Toyota was a little shy on the interior, bestowing us with only a single image. Even so, it depicts a large horizontal touchscreen, a tablet-styled digital instrument cluster screen behind the steering wheel, and (thank god!) a physical row of buttons for HVAC operations.

Thank you, Toyota, for not keeping up with the trend of touchscreen-ing every single button in the car.

The chunky steering wheel is similar to what we have previously seen in the upcoming bZ4X EV, and the gear shifter on the centre console is reminiscent of the joystick-style unit found on the old Prius.

The new Prius will be delivered with either a 1.8-litre or 2.0-litre hybrid engine. This renowned combination of a combustion engine, electric motor and battery deliver better fuel economy and acceleration. Toyota has also teased a 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid system that further boosts maximum power and range.

The new fifth-gen Prius also has the grunt to go with its new looks. Toyota claims that the reworked hybrid system produces 193 bhp in standard form and 220 bhp in the plug-in-hybrid model. This is a huge step up from the current model, which has a measly combined output of just 121 bhp. At this juncture, we do not have confirmation on which engine configuration will be making its way to Singapore.

The new Prius is equipped with a Toyota Safety Sense monocular camera at the front, a rear-facing camera for the Digital Inner Mirror, and an in-vehicle drive recorder. Interestingly, the data recorded is stored on the car’s ECU instead of a regular SD card, to avoid potential data corruption.

Eight different body colours will be made available for the Prius, including two newly-developed solid base colours – Ash and Mustard. We sincerely hope that the famous Toyota lime-green colour makes another appearance in this new model.

Regular variants of the Prius will come with a panoramic view moonroof which can be fully opened, while PHEV variants are instead equipped with a second-generation solar charging system. The car is able to draw power whilst being parked, and the energy generated is equivalent to driving up to 1,250 km per year.

Pricing and availability for the new Prius weren’t disclosed during the reveal, although we can bet it would still be affordable for most demographics. Toyota did stress it would be “affordable for everybody” after all.
