Income Insurance has just launched its new eDrivo Car Insurance, specially designed for electric vehicles (EVs).
eDrivo brings something fresh to the table with two industry-first benefits: 24/7 emergency mobile rescue and a voluntary battery replacement excess, addressing two of the biggest headaches for EV owners, range anxiety and the high cost of battery replacement.
In partnership with Power Up Tech (P.UP), Singapore’s first and only mobile EV charging service, eDrivo policyholders will get emergency roadside assistance. P.UP’s mobile chargers will provide a quick 30-minute DC fast charge, restoring up to 20% of battery capacity, enough to get you safely to the nearest charging station.
Beyond that, eDrivo’s coverage offers a range of other useful features specifically for EVs, such as cyber hacking protection. And there’s even coverage for your private charging station, offering up to $5,000 in protection. But what makes this policy stand out is the battery replacement coverage, which includes unlimited replacements in case of an accident.
Policyholders can also opt for a voluntary battery replacement excess. With this, you get a 5% discount on your premium, and in exchange, you pay $3,000 upfront to replace the battery if it’s damaged.
Given Singapore’s ambitious plans to phase out internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by 2040, along with the expectation that 80% of passenger vehicles will be electric by then, it’s clear that EV adoption is only going to accelerate.
Cecilia Siah, Head of Motor Business at Income Insurance, mentioned: “As Singapore moves towards sustainable transportation, we’re taking a customer-centric approach to tailor our insurance offerings to meet the real needs of motorists. We’re here to bridge those gaps and ensure a smoother transition to EV adoption.”
Policyholders will also benefit from Income’s dedicated accident response team, the Orange Force. In the event of an accident, the Orange Force will guide policyholders through accident reporting procedures and provide advisory on claims. And for EV owners, these ambassadors are trained to handle EV-specific safety concerns.
