Motul Introduces Enhanced Track & Trace System To Combat Counterfeit Engine Oils

Motul is strengthening product authentication across Asia Pacific with new QR codes, encrypted security features and holographic labels.

When it comes to engine oil, what is inside the bottle matters considerably more than the label on the outside. But with the rapid growth of e-commerce and third-party marketplaces, ensuring that motorists receive genuine products has become an increasingly important concern.

Motul Asia Pacific is addressing this challenge with the introduction of an enhanced Track & Trace system, designed to help consumers verify the authenticity of their Motul products more easily.

The upgraded platform introduces new security technologies across the region, giving motorists an additional layer of assurance when purchasing lubricants.

There is now a redesigned authentication label featuring a unique QR code. Motorists can scan the code using their smartphones, which directs them to an online verification platform confirming whether the product is genuine. The platform also provides additional product information, allowing consumers to check their purchases before using them.

Motul has incorporated proprietary encryption within the QR codes, alongside advanced laser holographic elements that display different visual effects when viewed from various angles. These features are designed to make authentication labels more difficult to replicate, while keeping the verification process simple for everyday motorists.

The upgraded Track & Trace system goes beyond simply confirming product authenticity. Consumers who encounter suspicious products can also report their concerns directly through the verification platform, allowing Motul to investigate potential issues within its distribution network.

“Motul has always promised to deliver the most innovative, high-performance products on the market, and our responsibility as a brand does not end at manufacturing. We owe it to our drivers to ensure that every bottle reaching them is perfectly genuine, upholding the exact quality standards they expect.”

Carlo Savoca, Chief Marketing Officer of Motul Asia Pacific.

Protecting More Than Just The Engine

For a company with more than 170 years of experience in developing high-performance lubricants, product authenticity is closely tied to its reputation.

Motul’s products are used across everyday motoring and professional motorsport, including competitions such as MotoGP, the Dakar Rally and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Maintaining consistent product quality is therefore essential, particularly when modern engines operate under increasingly demanding conditions.

The new Motul Track & Trace system represents another step towards improving transparency within the automotive aftermarket, where consumers are often purchasing products through multiple distribution channels.
