Singapore Leads FedEx Asia Pacific in Electric Revolution

FedEx has chosen Singapore as the pioneering market within its Asia Pacific network to deploy its custom-built Mercedes-Benz eVito electric vans.

This initiative reinforces FedEx’s commitment to sustainability while supporting Singapore’s Green Plan 2030.

In total, FedEx introduced 31 all-electric eVito 112 panel vans into its local fleet. These vans boast an impressive 923kg load capacity and an estimated range of 321km per charge.

The deployment is expected to eliminate approximately 148 metric tons of tailpipe emissions annually when compared to traditional diesel-powered vehicles.

This is part of FedEx’s global mission to electrify 100% of its vehicle purchases by 2030, aiming for carbon-neutral operations by 2040.

The electrification strategy also helps in smarter operations. The company has implemented AI-powered route optimisation through its Stops Sequencing tool, which dynamically adjusts delivery routes based on package volume and customer requirements.

This not only reduces fuel and energy consumption but also slashes carbon emissions, offering a practical, eco-friendly solution to modern logistics.

FedEx is also integrating renewable energy into its infrastructure. Its South Pacific Regional Hub in Singapore is set to leverage solar energy to meet over half its electricity needs by January 2025.

This will directly support the charging of its electric fleet with clean energy, aligning with national sustainability goals.

Singapore’s electrification efforts are part of FedEx’s larger Asia Pacific strategy. Recent milestones include the company’s first cross-border electric vehicle delivery between Malaysia and Singapore, which earned recognition from the Malaysian Book of Records.

In other markets, innovative solutions like electric tricycles in Taiwan and electric trucks in Japan and Thailand demonstrate FedEx’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint across diverse geographies.

“This initiative reflects FedEx’s unwavering commitment to smarter logistics,” said Kawal Preet, President of FedEx Asia Pacific. “By introducing electric vehicles, we are reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing efficiency, all while supporting Singapore’s sustainability objectives. This is a vital step in our journey to carbon-neutral operations.”

As FedEx celebrates 40 years in Singapore, its cutting-edge technology, renewable energy, and greener operations help set the benchmark for modern logistics.
