With the Rolls-Royce Phantom Arabesque, the marque interpreted centuries-old mashrabiya latticework through a newly patented laser-engraving technique.
Commissioned through Rolls-Royce Motor Car Private Office Dubai, this one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended is both a tribute and a technical milestone.
The mashrabiya motif flows across the car in layered expressions, from the bonnet to the Gallery and into the smallest interior details.
Architecture in Motion

Mashrabiya screens are among the most recognisable elements of traditional Middle Eastern architecture. Intricately carved wooden lattices provide privacy while allowing air and filtered light to pass through, creating natural cooling and a sense of calm enclosure.
Phantom Arabesque captures that balance of beauty and function. The geometric pattern is not simply applied. It is embedded into the car’s very surface.
The Bonnet as a Canvas

For the first time in its history, Rolls-Royce presents a fully laser-engraved bonnet. The process, five years in development, draws inspiration from the Italian sgraffito technique, where layers are revealed rather than added.
The bonnet begins in a darker base shade, sealed beneath layers of clear coat before a lighter top layer is applied. The mashrabiya pattern is then engraved to a precise depth of 145 to 190 microns, revealing the darker tone beneath. What emerges is a three-dimensional surface that subtly shifts as light moves across it, inviting closer inspection.
Each engraved section is hand-finished to ensure consistency and sculptural clarity. By integrating the design within the paint itself, the result is both durable and deeply refined, opening new creative possibilities for future commissions.
Exterior Presence

Finished in Diamond Black with contrasting Silver upper surfaces, Phantom Arabesque carries its detailing with quiet confidence. A single hand-painted coachline in Silver incorporates a delicate mashrabiya motif.
An illuminated Pantheon grille framed in Dark Chrome, paired with an uplit Spirit of Ecstasy, adds a final sense of ceremony. Twenty-two-inch part-polished alloy wheels complete the silhouette.
A Study in Mastery Inside

The interior continues the theme with composure rather than excess. The Gallery across the fascia features an intricate marquetry artwork crafted from Blackwood and Black Bolivar wood, echoing the geometric language of the exterior.
Selby Grey and Black leathers shape the cabin’s serene atmosphere, accented by embroidered mashrabiya motifs on the headrests and Starlight Doors trimmed in matching tones. Illuminated treadplates bearing a cross-section of the bonnet engraving motif quietly reference the innovation outside.
Delivered to its commissioning client in the Middle East, Phantom Arabesque stands as a reminder that luxury today is not only about material, but meaning. It is craftsmanship measured not just in precision, but in patience.

At just 145 microns deep, the engraving may be measured in fractions, but its meaning spans centuries. Phantom Arabesque proves that true craftsmanship lives in the smallest details.
