Bentley Motors has recently unveiled a game-changing driving simulator at its factory.
In a move at the Bentley factory in Crewe, the company has announced the installation of a groundbreaking Compact Full Spectrum Driving Simulator.
This new simulator is designed to dramatically reduce the need for physical testing, cutting down on the real-world road miles that engineers need to cover to refine the world’s most sought-after luxury cars.
One of the most striking aspects of this simulator is its ability to assess and perfect various vehicle dynamics without leaving the garage. From ride comfort, cabin acoustics, vibration, and even seat development, this simulator can do it all.
It’s about bringing the “road” to the vehicle rather than the other way around. Envision evaluating ride comfort over emulated road surfaces in a controlled environment that offers a realistic and time-saving representation of vehicle response.
Installed right at Bentley’s campus, this pioneering technology is expected to save about 85 tons of CO2 and up to 350 days of traditional road testing per vehicle prototype.
Developed in Italy by global simulator specialists VI-grade, the compact system is set to play a crucial role in the development of Bentley’s forthcoming range of battery electric vehicles.
Dr Matthias Rabe, Member of the Board for Engineering at Bentley Motors, shares his perspective on the broader impact of this technology: “Beyond its technical capabilities, the Dynamic Driving Simulator brings substantial sustainability benefits. It reduces the necessity for both physical prototypes and extensive physical tests, which often involve transporting cars and colleagues to remote locations around the world.”
