Escape the City: A BMW Road Trip That Redefines Community and the Joy of Getting Away

Organised under the Performance Motorsports Circle, ‘Escape the City’ seeks to rediscover why people fall in love with driving in the first place, and why BMW ownership at its best is as much about community as it is about machinery.

The Pahang edition (11–13 December 2025) saw a convoy of more than 35 BMWs travel over 400 kilometres from Singapore into Malaysia. What stood out was how naturally conversations flowed once the cars were parked. Breakfast tables replaced boardrooms. Driving impressions replaced small talk. The trip was structured, yet unforced; good planning can still leave room for spontaneity.

Singapore’s roads are unforgivingly efficient, but they rarely allow a car to stretch its legs. Escape the City changes that. Long expressway runs, undulating terrain and varied surfaces gave participants the chance to experience BMWs as they were engineered to be driven.

The steering weights, the chassis balance, the way the cars settled at cruising speeds, it all felt more coherent out here. BMW’s oft-quoted “sheer driving pleasure” line finally had the space to breathe.

Electrification, proven the right way

Perhaps the most telling moment of the trip came quietly. For the first time, several BMW battery electric vehicles, including the i7, iX, iX1 and i5, joined a long-distance convoy drive.

Range anxiety never quite showed up. PML had mapped charging stops meticulously and partnered P.UP, a mobile EV charging provider capable of supporting up to three EVs simultaneously. This allowed the electric BMWs to keep pace effortlessly with their combustion counterparts, without drama or detours.

Inclusive by design

Another quiet but meaningful evolution came through PML’s “All Access to Joy” initiative. For the first time, pre-owned BMW owners from sister company Auto Selection were invited to participate.

It changed the dynamic subtly, but significantly. The experience felt less exclusive, more inclusive, reinforcing the idea that BMW ownership is not defined by when you bought your car, but how you enjoy it.

Escape the City is deliberately multidimensional. Golfers peeled away for a round at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (West Course), while others explored curated food stops, including a memorable visit to GLO Durian Farm, where Pahang’s reputation for the “King of Fruits” was put to enthusiastic use.

There was also a scenic drive to Genting Highlands, with optional detours to Fraser’s Hill.

A dealership that behaves like a partner

Performance Motors is positioning itself as more than a retailer. Through Escape the City, the Performance Motors Golf Association, and experiences like the PML BMW M Experience at Austria’s Salzburgring, it is curating a continuum of ownership that extends far beyond the showroom floor, making ownership richer.

Escape the City succeeds because it understands something fundamental: driving is emotional. It is about freedom, trust in the machine, and the quiet joy of shared journeys.

As the convoy rolled back into Singapore, the city felt louder, tighter, more hurried. But the memory of open roads lingered. And perhaps that is the real achievement of Performance Motors’ Escape the City. It does not just take you away from the city for a few days, but reminds you why, every now and then, it is worth leaving it behind.
