We had an early look at the upcoming Hyundai ELEXIO, a new electric SUV that is expected to be launched very soon.
Hyundai has offered local media an early look at the ELEXIO, its latest all-electric crossover, ahead of the model’s official local launch.
Previewed on 10 September, the ELEXIO is built on a new electric architecture and introduces what Hyundai calls its “Beyond Innovation” design philosophy. Rather than leading purely with headline performance figures, the company is positioning the model around comfort, safety and ease of use.
Final homologated specifications have yet to be confirmed, but the pre-launch information already gives a fairly clear idea of where the ELEXIO is headed. It will also arrive during a milestone year for Komoco Motors, which marks 40 years as Hyundai’s official distributor in Singapore in 2026.
Hyundai describes the ELEXIO as a human-centric EV, with many of its systems designed to work quietly in the background rather than demanding constant attention from the driver. That approach makes sense for a crossover intended for daily urban use.
The exterior adopts a relatively clean and aerodynamic shape, with a smooth nose and slab-sided profile. Its most recognisable feature is likely to be the Cosmic Cube LED headlight treatment, which uses pixel-style lighting elements to give the car a distinctly digital look. Full-width rear lighting continues the theme.
Flush-fitting powered door handles help keep the sides uncluttered, while 20-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels feature what Hyundai calls a “plum blossom” design. At 4,615mm long and 1,875mm wide, with a 2,750mm wheelbase, the ELEXIO should sit squarely in the heart of the electric crossover segment.
Hyundai has gone for a lounge-like layout on the inside, using stitched mock-suede, fabric trim and perforated leather-like surfaces, while reducing the amount of exposed hard plastic across the main cabin areas.
Dominating the dashboard is an ultra-thin 27-inch 4K Connect-C panoramic touchscreen, joined by a head-up display for important driving information. The front seats are both heated and ventilated, while hidden storage compartments have been worked into the interior. Boot space is rated at 506 litres, expanding to 1,540 litres with the rear seats folded.
For now, these remain pre-homologation specifications, but they suggest Hyundai is aiming the ELEXIO at buyers who want their EV to feel more like a comfortable everyday lounge than a rolling technology demonstration.
Hyundai is also putting considerable emphasis on safety. The ELEXIO has achieved a five-star ANCAP rating and is expected to be offered locally with nine airbags.
Hyundai SmartSense driver-assistance technology will also feature, although the company has not yet released the full Singapore equipment list. Vehicle-to-Load capability is included too, allowing the car’s battery to power compatible external electrical equipment.
The pre-homologation specifications list two battery choices for Singapore. The Standard Range model uses a 64.2kWh battery, while the Long Range variant gets an 88.1kWh pack. Both are front-wheel drive.
Hyundai currently quotes 0-100km/h times of 10.7 seconds for the Standard Range model and 12.1 seconds for the Long Range version. Using a 350kW DC charger under optimal conditions, the smaller battery is claimed to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 36 minutes, while the Long Range version takes 38 minutes.
Official local driving range figures have not yet been announced, so that remains one of the more important numbers still to come.
Singapore buyers will get another opportunity to see the ELEXIO at The Car Expo on 24 and 25 October 2026 at Singapore Expo Halls 4 and 5.
Five exterior colours have been listed for the local market. These include Dragon Red, Military Grey, Phantom Black, White Crystal and Cyber Sage, with black or grey interiors.
Pricing, range figures and final homologated specifications are still to be confirmed, but as a preview, the ELEXIO already looks like one of Hyundai Singapore’s more interesting electric arrivals to watch.
