Porsche Is Upgrading Its Zuffenhausen Production Plant

250 million euros has been pumped in for future Porsche projects.

Porsche is orchestrating a symphony of changes at its Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen headquarters. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill facelift; it’s a full-blown transformation. And the price tag for this automotive upgrade? A cool 250 million euros.

Now, let’s zoom into Zuffenhausen, a district nestled in the northern bosom of Stuttgart, the German automotive sanctum. Picture it as a mosaic of once-independent townships – Zuffenhausen, Zazenhausen, Neuwirtshaus, and Rot – melding into a petrolhead’s haven.

The guys at Porsche are gearing up for the next act – the 718 generation of electric sports cars. Picture the iconic assembly line, where the essence of Porsche comes to life. But this will soon be a Flexiline, a ballet of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) pirouetting gracefully, replacing convention with flexibility.

At the heart of this transformation is logistics. The body shop, a crucible of automotive artistry, is getting a sibling near the Porsche Museum. By 2025, a high-bay rack system will rise, a technological colossus ensuring that Taycan and sports cars are crafted with precision. With 40,650 storage spaces, each holds the promise of a roaring engine or the whisper of an electric motor.

But that’s not the end of the tale. Since 2016, a new chapter unfolded – a cathedral for V8 combustion engines, the beating hearts of the Panamera and Cayenne. And now, the rhythm of electric pulses joins this symphony.

Electric motors for the upcoming Porsche Macan find their home here, seamlessly integrated into this engine epicentre. The Macan, a herald of the electric future, is set to grace the Leipzig stage in 2024, a testament to Porsche’s commitment to the electrifying road ahead.
