As Singapore continues to shape a car-lite and sustainable mobility landscape, ZipZap, the long-term car subscription service under GetGo, has introduced a game-changing feature: Subscribe & Share.
This first-in-market innovation is designed to empower subscribers with greater financial flexibility and promote more efficient vehicle utilisation. We sat down with Johnson Lim, Chief Marketing Officer and Co-Founder of ZipZap and GetGo, to learn more about the thinking behind this initiative and how it could reshape the future of car access in Singapore.
Addressing a Shifting Mindset
The premise of ‘Subscribe & Share’ is simple: to reduce the inefficiencies of car ownership by enabling subscribers to share their vehicles during planned idle periods, such as long holidays or work trips. “Most cars are idle 95% of the time,” Johnson noted. “So why not turn that idle time into an opportunity rather than a sunk cost?”
He explains that in Singapore, where car ownership costs are among the highest globally, the traditional model no longer fits evolving consumer preferences. Today’s drivers, particularly the financially savvy and digitally native generation, are seeking smarter alternatives that blend convenience with flexibility.
Since its introduction, ‘Subscribe & Share’ has seen significant traction, with nearly 60% of ZipZap subscribers expressing interest in the feature.
A Broader Shift in Mobility Preferences

Beyond economics, Johnson sees the programme as part of a deeper, societal shift in mobility mindset. As Certificate of Entitlement (COE) prices, downpayments, and long-term maintenance costs continue to escalate, younger families and working professionals are increasingly drawn to options that offer predictable, bundled pricing.
“People are beginning to separate the concept of access from ownership,” Johnson observed. While some still choose to own, others are opting for models like ZipZap that spread out costs while offering adaptability to life’s changing needs.
Through Subscribe & Share, users can dynamically scale their access, leasing a vehicle when needed and sharing it during periods of non-use, such as parental leave or overseas assignments.
Ensuring a Seamless and Hassle-Free Experience
Operational excellence is key to the success of any sharing model. According to Johnson, ZipZap and GetGo have worked closely to ensure that Subscribe & Share remains seamless and secure at every step. From onboarding to car listing, inspections, handover, and billing, every process is integrated into a closed-loop system overseen by both platforms.
Should any issues arise, such as late returns, fines, or vehicular damage, these are handled directly by GetGo’s operations team, ensuring peace of mind for subscribers.
“Subscribers simply list their idle days on our platform, complete pre- and post-inspections, and enjoy automated billing offsets the following month,” Johnson explained. “Everything is designed to be intuitive and low-friction”.
Overcoming Charging Concerns with EV Fleet Expansion

With a growing number of electric vehicles (EVs) in ZipZap’s fleet, Johnson also highlighted how the platform is addressing range anxiety and charging accessibility. “We provide islandwide access to charging stations through partnerships with major Charge Point Operators (CPOs),” he shared.
Subscribers enjoy hassle-free access to EV chargers in HDB carparks, commercial buildings, and public hubs across Singapore. By maintaining robust backend coordination and infrastructure, ZipZap ensures that EV adoption becomes not only possible but practical and user-friendly for everyday drivers.
Shaping the Future of Mobility in Singapore

As Singapore’s mobility needs evolve, Johnson envisions ZipZap and GetGo playing complementary roles in supporting a dynamic, car-lite society. “GetGo caters to drivers needing short-term, on-demand access, while ZipZap serves those who prefer long-term, flexible access without ownership burdens.”
He foresees a future of hybrid usage patterns, where users fluidly move between different modes (be it public transport, carsharing, subscription, or leasing), depending on their life stage and mobility requirements. Initiatives like Subscribe & Share are just the beginning, as ZipZap aims to empower communities with sustainable and accessible mobility solutions.
With the festive season and Chinese New Year on the horizon, Subscribe & Share arrives at a timely juncture for Singapore drivers seeking smarter, cost-effective ways to use their cars. By bridging flexibility, financial relief, and operational simplicity, ZipZap is charting a bold new course for the future of shared mobility.
