Heavy Rain Causes Cars To Crash Into Funan Mall Carpark

It’s a stormy evening in Singapore, the kind that turns your simple drive to Funan Mall into an unintended inconvenience.

On 14th May 2024, as the rain hammered down, some motorists found themselves in a slippery predicament as they approached Funan Mall’s carpark ramp. The angle of descent, coupled with the slippery surface, caused several cars to veer left and smack into the side wall.

In total, official reports suggested a chain of 10 to 15 cars that skidded and crashed. The drivers were not going fast either, but the aftermath was a scene of scratches, dents, and misaligned steering wheels.

While no injuries were reported, the damage to the vehicles would have caused some inconvenience to the respective drivers.

The mall’s response was swift, with the affected area and the entrance from North Bridge Road promptly cordoned off for safety. In a statement, a Funan Mall spokesperson emphasised the mall’s commitment to safety and shopper well-being, expressing regret over the incident and assuring that an investigation was underway.

For now, the entrance remains closed, and visitors are advised to use the Hill Street access.

The incident, while unfortunate, serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of driving in wet weather and the importance of infrastructure that can cope with such challenges.

As for the affected drivers, the journey to resolve the damages begins, likely intertwined with conversations with insurers.
