6 weeks with the 6 ::: Week Three

Three weeks in, and the Hyundai IONIQ 6 continues to surprise me—not just with its comfort and performance but also with the little realities of EV ownership. As someone living in an HDB flat without a dedicated home charger, I’ve quickly learned that owning an EV means embracing a new level of planning, patience, and yes, apps.

At last count, I now have eight EV charging apps on my phone.

While it may sound overwhelming at first, it’s become part of my routine, and honestly, it feels empowering to have such flexibility in charging options.

For overnight charging, I rely on a few 7 kW chargers located about a half-kilometer walk from my block. It’s a bit of a trek, but it works perfectly for an 8-hour charge from 20% to full. I usually time this with my evening routine—drop the car off, grab dinner, and take a quiet stroll home. By morning, the car is ready for another full day of commutes and errands.

On busier days, the fast charger at MacPherson has been my go-to. In just under an hour, I can top up enough to last me a few more days. It’s also a surprisingly relaxing experience—I often use this time to catch up on messages, emails, or just enjoy the quiet comfort of my spacious IONIQ 6 cabin. The car’s ergonomic seats and calming design make even these idle moments enjoyable.

Driving an EV like the IONIQ 6 has been a game-changer. The smoothness of the ride, its quiet efficiency, and the instant acceleration are addictive. After a long day at work, the ease of driving it feels like the perfect antidote to the daily grind. There’s something so satisfying about the effortless way it glides through traffic.

I won’t lie—there’s still a part of me that loves the raw, visceral thrill of a performance ICE (internal combustion engine) car. The roar of an engine and the tactile connection with the road is something I’ll always appreciate. But for my daily life? It’s EV all the way. The convenience, comfort, and sheer practicality of the IONIQ 6 have me convinced that once you go electric, it’s nearly impossible to go back.

As Singapore continues to build up its charging infrastructure, EVs will eventually rule the roads and charging stations may start to get busier. For now, I’m enjoying the ease-of-use, exploring the limits of range, and simply savouring the modern, fuss-free experience of the Hyundai IONIQ 6.
